Guest guest
Hi, Jan. I'm on Remicade at 6 mg/kg every 8 weeks and Methotrexate at 15 mg per week. That works pretty well for me for 6 weeks but then the medicines start to wear off and I have trouble (or go back on Prednisone) for a couple of weeks. What doses are you on? Your doctor may be able to change your dosages or the interval between doses to make things better. Keep us posted. Good luck and God bless. ----- Original Message ----- From: Jan Dean Rheumatoid Arthritis Sent: Sunday, July 20, 2003 5:58 AM Subject: Thank you I joined the list a few weeks ago and want to thank everyone for thewonderful posts. I've had RA for about 16 years and did well with goldshots through the years. When Solganal was discontinued, I went onRemicade. At first, it seemed to work, but now I'm having problems. I don'tknow if it's the Remicade or having to adjust to a new climate. (I movedfrom Orlando to the Miss. Gulf Coast a few months ago.) Reading what youall write makes me feel not so alone with this disease. I rarely talk aboutmy RA to anyone but my rheumatolgist, so it's nice to feel part of a groupthat shares. All my best to each of you,Jan Dean
Guest guest
Hi, Harold. I'm on 15 mg of methotrexate a week also, but I'm not sure about the Remicade. It was 3mg/kg when I was in Orlando, and I'm assuming that's what my new rheumatologist has me on. Bad to assume, isn't it? I need to check. On my last infusion, she added another " bottle " because of the problems I'm having. I've probably caused many of the problems myself by being so adamant about getting off of prednisone. When the extra dosage of Remicade didn't make any difference, I called and she said to add 2mg of prednisone a day. I was surprised that such a small dosage of prednisone makes a difference, but it does. Guest guest
Hi, Jan. Remicade is given based on body weight. I weigh a little over 100 kg (225 pounds) so I started at 4 vials (3 mg/kg) for two infusions, then 6 vials (5 mg/kg) for three infusions, and since then 7 vials (6 mg/kg). Two vials would be 3 mg/kg for someone who weighed 110 to 146 pounds, or 2 mg/kg for someone who weighed 147 to 220 pounds (each vial is 100 mg Remicade). The increased number of vials would result in an increase in the Remicade dose. I can get off Prednisone a day or two after an infusion but after about 6 weeks I start to have troubles rising from a chair. My hands start to hurt and I can't make a fist. This time I'm on 2 mg Prednisone and doing fairly well at week 7. I'll try to keep Prednisone at that level till my infusion but if I start to have troubles again I will up the Prednisone. I've been told that 5 mg of Prednisone or below is a low dose that people can toleate for a very long period. ----- Original Message ----- From: Jan Dean Rheumatoid Arthritis Sent: Tuesday, July 22, 2003 7:13 AM Subject: Re: Thank you Hi, Harold.
