Hi everyone i feel a bit despondent today. I was due to have my blood taken

yesterday so i stopped my Levo on Sunday i wasn't advised to do this by my GP of

course i just got the info from this great forum. Five minutes before leaving

the surgery rang to say they had to cancel. I went along today to have it done

and i plucked up courage to ask the grumpy nurse what i was being tested for and

she said it was just the usual TSH test. I just cant believe it i had spoken to

my G p at length about needing to be tested properly and she did request the

right tests last time. That's how i found out i had the antibodies. Id had ten

normal tests in the last five years. She seemed open and supportive last time i

cant believe I'm just having the normal test again. I still haven't had the T3

back from the lab after two months and i don't think i ever will. I don't know

if i will get the right treatment with just the normal test presumably she will

continue with my treatment now she knows about the antibodies. Regards 2.

***i plucked up courage to ask the grumpy nurse what i was being tested for andshe said it was just the usual TSH test

Hi Tracey2,

What can I say? You've been had ... again Commiserations - If it's any consolation, I think this is the reality we all have to face these days. How many times have we read similar stories on here? ...To get anything more than a TSH out of our GPs is wishful thinking, it seems. It would not surprised me to learn that GPs and endos alike have been briefed to just pacify patients in any way they see fit - agree with them, look interested in their problems ... but then to largely ignore the patient and stick to their "guidelines" .

I don't know how it works in other surgeries around the country, but in mine the GP appointments and the lab appointments are separate. When I go to my GP and ask for a blood test, he will give me a form on which he has ticked what should be done. I think, in order to safe ourselves this kind of frustration that you have just experienced, Tracey, we should all learn how to read those blood test forms.

The forms may slightly differ, but usually they are grouped into

Haematology, Biochemistry, Microbiology and Immunology.

The "Biochemistry" is the one to look at for a thyroid function test .... It usually has got little boxes, and there should be one that says "Thyroid". If the doctor only ticks that one, then you can bet your life, all that will be done is a TSH. When my GP is trying that one on, I hand him back the form and ask him (with an apologetic smile - sorry, but we have to play the game to get anywhere) to please add a hand written request for anything else I want done (FT3, FT4,etc). That puts the doctor on the spot. S/he either then has to say that this is not necessary (in which case you are wasting your time anyway), or they'll oblige and put it on. Once the hand written request is on the form, I tell the nurse who is taking the blood to please put a request on the form AGAIN - so that the lab would not "accidentally" forget to do this. I always spin a yarn, playing one against the other, telling the nurse that my GP specifically wants those parameters, so would she please do what she can that this does not get "overlooked" by the lab ..... so far I have always had all the requested parameters done this way, with the exception of an FT3 last time. But I think to get an FT3 these days, it might have to be requested by an endo and not a GP.

If we want autoantibodies done, look at the "Immunology" group - they are on there and would need to be ticked. If they haven't got a box, then it needs a hand written request in this field, and so on.... B12 and the other parameters like Magnesium, Zinc, Vit D3, Ferritin and Copper , I believe, would have to be ticked or hand written into "Haematology".

Best wishes,

Telephone your GP and tell her that you are desperate to have a

FULL thyroid function test and that surely this is your right. The blood that

has been taken is always saved for a while at the lab. in case other tests need

doing, and your doctor can telephone through to ask them to test your Free T4

and Free T3. TSH is not likely to change much through stopping your

levothyroxine for 24 hours.

If the tests come back 'normal' we will have to take it from

there, but you never know, wait and see what happens this time Tracey.

Hi - Why are you taking 3 Nutri Thyroid and 2 Thyro

complex as well as natural desiccated thyroid 2 1/2 grains? Nutri Thyroid

and Thyro complex are considered as supplements to help boost the thyroid,

which you eventually stop and replace with either synthetic or natural thyroid

hormone replacement. As you are feeling so awful, it might be that the amount

of minerals and vitamins etc in all these different supplements is just too

much and letting you know about it. You may have been muscle tested when you

started taking all of these supplements but your body's needs are changing all

the time.

Look at the ingredients in Cortico B5B6 -

Perhaps you should add up the different amounts of the vitamins

and minerals you are taking in all your supplements - remembering you are

already taking 4000 mgs vitamin C and 200mcgs Selenium to see whether you are

overdoing some of them.

Just looking at the amount of vitamin B6 alone, with the amount in

Cortico B5B6 - taking 4 tablets, you are taking 400mgs. with your 1 tablet of

Nutri Adrenal Extra you are taking 20mgs - with your 2 tablets of Thyro Complex

you are taking 25mgs - in 2 tablets of Nutri Multi Liver Complex you are taking

nearly 10mgs - this all adds up to a massive 455 mgs vitamin B6. Intake of levels that are

higher than 200 mg can cause problems in neurological functions causing damage

to your sensory nerves, leading to numbness in your extremities and

difficulties in walking. Studies have even revealed that for long term use, it

is best not to intake more than 100 mg of vitamin B6 daily. Supervision by a

qualified practitioner is much needed for doses more than this.

Also, look at the amount of Selenium you are taking daily, 2 tablets

of Liver complext daily 50mcgs - 2 tablets of Thyro Complex daily 50mcgs. Add

these to your 200 mcgs Selenium (the recommended daily dose) and you will see

you are taking 300mcgs Selenium daily.

Have a look at the following to check out all the daily dosages

of all the other minerals and supplements you are taking http://1stholistic.com/nutrition/hol_nutr-toxic-dosages.htm

Luv - Sheila

Ok here goes with the supplement list, by the way these

supplements/doseages have been muscle tested by a kinesologist and

recently tested.

NDT in total 8 wks. On 2 1/2 grains now, been on this for 1 week.

1 NAE

Then I'm on 3 other Nutri products for adrenals:

4 Cortico B5 B6

1 Adreset - adaptogenic herbs including panax ginseng

Compose -chinese herbal formula

Vit C - approx 4000mg

Selenium 200

3 Nutri thyroid

2 thyro complex

2 Multi liver formula

I had my mercury fillings removed end of September, I did have them

removed safely but things have deterioated since then. There maybe

mecury still deposited elsewhere that is causing problems. I suppose

some of the above will help but my body has probably little energy to

detox and heal with the thyroid/adrenal situation.

My adrenals scored as mild problem on the questionnaire and I am

treating them via the above.

I did test postively for candida via muscles tests and have treated for

a long time with Nutrispore and the diet. I am no longer testing

positively for candida.

Thanks for your post about the sea salt, think this may help.

Hi

Are you sure you aren't taking 1 mg of melatonin - only I thought the bottles I

sent you were 1 mg tablets? I do hope I didn't send you 10 mg ones by mistake.

I tried various doses and now take 5 mg a night - but there is rather a lot of

me because I put on 7 stone in a year about 4 years ago when this bout of

illness started - if I were normal weight I would probably still be on about 3mg

as the 1 mg didn't really do much for me even when I was thinner.

But I just started on 1 mg and increased it by 1 mg at a time until I found what

suited me best.

Hi Bunny,

Don't worry it was somebody else that sent me the 10mg, it's nobodys

fault though.

I'm going to start with 1mg and build up like you said if necessary.

You know what I thought the other day when I read your post and you

said you had been advised about the sunglasses years ago (hope I've got

that right). Well it's just a thought but on researching melatonin

stuff they advise you to get a lot of light in the day. Also, how

melatonin effects your sleep/weight function. When I went to the

hospital years ago to rule out sleep apnea they said that light therapy

was another option. You have to fund it yourself though but I've read

that it's better at resetting your sleep/wake cycle permanently- its

shelling out again though.
