Guest guest
Thought you might enjoy this extract from a letter from my local hospital, received this morning after I asked them why they ahd not measured by T4 when my GP had specifically asked for it: " Our thyroid function testing protocol, which has been in place for some years and is regularly reviewed, uses TSH as the first test. In most cases, TSH is the only test we need do as it is the most sensitive and reliable marker of thyroid function. This remains the case even when patients are receiving thyroxine replacement therapy. " They go on to say that my TSH is in the normal range so T4 would not have added any useful information. They ignore the fact that my GP asked for it because I was feeling so ill on thyroxine and because previously my T4 was coming down with my TSH instead of going up. I have now stopped taking the thyroxine anyway and am feeling 100% better than I was this time last week, but what is the point in taking it anyway if it cannot be monitored? Am I missing the point? I am told I have a thyroid issue, but the way I read this, they will not test my thyroid, only my pituitary, which we know is OK. Hopping mad (again) D
