Guest guest
Hello Lynne - welcome to our forum and I hope that we can continue to help you. You are correct, the cost to the NHS for treating each individual symptom of hypothyroidism is shocking, doctors should be quite ashamed of themselves because they have no knowledge of how the thyroid functions, and they do not do the research required of them to keep their education up to date. We can though blame both the BTA and the RCP for this, and investigations should be done to find out why they are giving incorrect information, and their refusal to rectify their errors when they are given the medical science that shows how wrong they are. I was getting more and more annoyed about how costly it was to my practice and the NHS in general to perpetrate their insistence of looking at each hypothyroid symptom in isolation, not linking any symptoms being displayed to the core condition! In fact, purposefully ignoring any symptoms whatsoever because the computer says " your thyroid is in range " !!!. First, your thyroid GLAND function might well be within the reference range - but have they taken into consideration that the thyroid hormone your thyroid gland is making is getting into your cells or not? The answer to that is NO - because many doctors are not even taught about peripheral thyroid hormone resistance. This can be hereditary or caused through environmental toxins - and blood tests cannot detect it.  You should read Mark Starr's book " Hypothyroidism Type 2 " . Medical practitioners are leaving tens of thousands of sufferers without a diagnosis of hypothyroidism and therefore not giving them the treatment they require. We have written to both the Royal College of Physicians and the British Thyroid Association about this - they never even responded. Quite simply, the NHS is killing us - and one wonders why. So I told the Doctor (new to me on that day, poor guy) how appalled I was that they did not look at the core condition before they went on expensive treatment journeys. After telling him all, he apologised on behalf of the practice and asked me if I felt they had let me down. I said Yes - most definitely...He said that I should see him from now on and he would work with me to manage everything as sensibly as possible. I do recognise that he had to deflect it for fear of me complaining in writing and having to deal with a complaint! Excellent result Lynne - let's hope that everybody can learn to be as assertive as you have been, and get such a good result. Ask him if he ever considers the possibility of peripheral thyroid hormone resistance in his patients who have all the symptoms and signs of hypothyroidism - yet the thyroid GLAND function tests are within the normal reference range. Ask him to take a little time out to read 's paper on ‘Hypothyroidism Mimics Require Consideration’ http://www.tpa-uk.org.uk/pritchard2_mimics.pdf which I sent to the President of the British Thyroid Association asking for comments - it was completely ignored and also his paper . I also sent copies of this paper to the following - not one person responded: All Members of the BTA Executive Committee ???? NHS Endocrinologists (568) ???? Trustees, British Thyroid Foundation ???? Rt Hon Gordon Brown PC MP, Prime Minister ???? Nicholson, NHS Chief Executive ???? Sir Liam son, Chief Medical officer ???? Mr Alan MP, Secretary of State for Health ???? Lord Sir Ara Darzi ???? Dr Fiona Adshead, Deputy Medical Officer ???? Ms Whittington, Head of Long Term Conditions ???? Professor Boyle, National Clinical Director – Heart Disease/Stroke ???? Professor Beasley, Chief Nursing Officer ???? Flora Goldhill, National Director of user Experience and Involvement ???? Harry Cayton, National Director Patient and Public Involvement ???? Dean and Head of all UK Medical Schools I also sent them 's paper entitled  The Linguistic Etiologies of Thyroxine-Resistant Hypothyroidism http://www.tpa-uk.org.uk/pritchard1.pdf - again, I guess the BTA, RCP simply threw it in the bin with all the other scientific research to show them how wrong they are. I think it is time that we made them sit up and listen. Luv - Sheila So, do I have a result of sorts?? Regards Lynne No virus found in this incoming message.
