My husband went thru all of that and the idiots only diagnosed Graves so years on Carbimazole lurching from over to underactive

Then so called Thyroid Storm and recomendation for Surgury ( RAI was not recomended as under 40 yrs old)

Surgury was followed by 6 weeks of being weak as a kitten and no replacement Thyroid meds

Downhill slide for 6 years with "normal " thyroid results to a point where work colleagues were phoning worried sick about him and his foul moods etc

He would spend days off in bed and covered in piles of blankets still feeling freezing cold and shaking never mind suicidal

Eventually after being referred to every specialty under the sun and having all his amalgam fillings removed and being told by local Endo that "I have hundreds of patients a week like you theres nothing wrong with any of them they should go away and change their lives "

I demanded a referral to top ME consultant and a Prof at Charing Cross

Both of them said HASHIMOTOS and Graves running in tandem and that Sewdish reserach showed that after Thyroidectomy or RAI anyone who had Graves was sensitised to such high levels of thyroid hormones that " normal T4 levels etc would no longer apply "

My husband was therefore severely HYPOTHYROID with a TSH of 2.9 (1-5)and a free T4 of 19 (10-24 )not to mention well into Myxodeama madness

So i simply do not believe any Endo ever again and in fact given our daughter was diagnosed with Hashimotos last year but clearly had been suffering all the concomitant problems for at least 20 years neither the blood tests or the medics know anything at all

Pat...

What was the swedish resarch you mentioned? I know someone who has had a

thyroid removed and is now having to take much larger doses of T3 than would be

expected....

If the miserable endo said that to me, I would have to hit him I'm sure of it..

Grrrrrr!!
