Guest guest
No you can buy your own and self treat, under guidance, if you want to. This is what many people have to do. chris >> sorry to have to ask again but if I can't get a scrip for Cortef from Dr P, does that mean I'm going to have to get it from my gp after getting approval from my endo ??? Guest guest
Keri, The link you posted showed the name cortef, but is for a generic. I buy from that site, and hc is always the Labs version, which I gather you've already tried. It's much cheaper than the named brand... how were you all over the place on it? It might be that you just need to take smaller doses closer together.. . > > What about http://www.valuepharmaceuticals.com/Cortef.php > thanks Sheila, does anyone have experience of this hc please? > > Keri x >

Guest guest
It's much cheaper than the named brand... how were you all over the place on it? Thanks . I was very very anxious all day on Monday with HC 10 mg first thing and then 10 mg after lunch. Usually I take my cortef HC in those quantities and my 35 mcg T3 and am ok'ish. Have a telephone consultation with Dr P today but feel that I need to get the cost down as it is working out at £1 plus per day on cortef. Do you take douglas hc? Guest guest
Have you tried taking HCL with your HC? There's some reports on Stop the thyroid madness that it helps the HC work better. chris
Guest guest
Hi Keri, Yes I take the HC, 20 mcg per day, more if I need it. I also take Lamberts betaine HCL (which I buy on ebay), which helps the HC to be absorbed. I've never tried Cortef so have no comparison. Do you take douglas hc? Thanks Chris. I take HCL & Pepsin (by Biocare) at each meal - do you mean at the same time as the HC? Keri x

I am speaking to Dr Peatfield for a tel consultation at 2 today. How do you know if you need more of the HC? I really need my hand held here - do you take in 2 doses? Guest guest
Just had my phone conversation with Dr P and am going to increase my HC by 5 mg to 25 mg, dropping T3 back down to 30 mcg from 35 mcg as getting anxious. He reckons that 20 mg of cortef hc is equivalent to 30/35 mg of douglas hc so I need to weigh that up when looking at the cost. Cortef in his experience is a consistent potency and strength. After 10 days on the 25 mg hc I will then increase my T3 to 35 and see what happens but I am not to struggle on with this anxiety. Phew! Good to be writing it. What stage do things like 'moon face' start to happen? Anything else to look out for? A bit scared of hc but I know some reverence is better than none. Guest guest
I do take hc everywhere & the endo also insisted that I have a HC syringe for emergencies - thanks Val. I am seeing my GP in Royston tomorrow and asking to be referred to Dr B in Kent, private or nhs - not sure. I feel in my bones (!) that he may well prescribe the cortef as I cannot take any thryoid med (armour previously) or my current T3 without HC - the NAE and Dr s dynamite adrenals were not sufficient.
