Guest guest
Wait and see what your GP says today Lizzie about the vitamin D. However, you do know that you should not take any CALCIUM or IRON containing products within four hours of taking any thyroid supplementation don't you. Luv - Sheila I saw my GP last week with my vitamin D result but he wouldn't prescribe any because I am taking a multivatamin at the moment that has 800iu of vitamin D. I go back to see him today to get the results of a lot of blood tests to see if I have polymayalgia rheumatica. I will quiz him again about the vitamin D. The multi also contains calcium as carbonate citrate malate of 200 mg. His concerns were he would have to prescribe it with calcium and he didn't want to unbalance my calcium. He couldn't prescribe more than 800iu of vitamin D alone as it was unlicensed to prescribe a higher dose without calcium, and since I was already taking 800 iu in a multi I was already getting a licensed amount. Guest guest
Hi, sounds a bit of a cop out- does he propose to monitor levels and prescribe if your multivit doesn't give improvement. Whe tests has he done for the polymyalgia? I ask, as a family friend suffers this, and I've always felt that many of her symptoms are hypo? Have you read up on the condtioin as well as hypo? > thyroid treatment > From: lassey@...> Date: Tue, 25 May 2010 12:10:45 +0000> Subject: Vitamin D level of 54> > Hi Everyone> > I saw my GP last week with my vitamin D result but he wouldn't prescribe any because I am taking a multivatamin at the moment that has 800iu of vitamin D.> > I go back to see him today to get the results of a lot of blood tests to see if I have polymayalgia rheumatica.> > I will quiz him again about the vitamin D.> > The multi also contains calcium as carbonate citrate malate of 200 mg.> > His concerns were he would have to prescribe it with calcium and he didn't want to unbalance my calcium. Guest guest
Hi No it doesn't look as though he is going to monitor Vitamin D but he is monitoring my Ferritin which has increased in 3 weeks from 26 to 36 on 3 200mg ferrous sulphate a day, so I will request a further vitamin D test in 4 weeks when I have Ferritin re checked. All my blood tests for polymalgia rheumatica have come back normal he was looking for a raised ESR result and imflamatary markers, so I was pleased about that. He also rechecked my thyroid bloods and I was pleased with them will post below April 21st on 1 3/4 grains for 4 weeks and one week on 2 grains of Erfa showed :- TSH 0.03 T4 7.7 T3 4.6 May 18th on Erfa 2 grains now for 6 weeks TSH 0.02 T4 10.1 T3 4.9 This is the first time since taking NDT that my T4 has come up to normal and the T3 looks to be making a slow increase, maybe the increase in Ferritin is helping things along. I may leave it at 2 grains now or try a small increase in a couple of weeks. I did read up on polymyalgia rheumatica but didn't think that was what I had. He also had my knees and pelvis x-rayed to find the cause of the joint pains I am still getting. All normal with mild degenerative changes to be expected at my age of 45. which all leads me to believe that I either need more vitamin D or more T3. Guest guest
Hi Sheila I did speak to my GP today and he is not happy to prescribe Vitamin D as my calcium levels are normal, he told me all the vitamin D does is help you absorb calcium and that was all it was needed for. I have not been taking my Erfa apart from the iron and calcium as I take it sublingually and read on the stop the thyroid madness site that it was ok if taken sublingually as it bypasses the stomach. Guest guest
I recently stopped taking Vitamin D3 for 6 days to test the results and the day after I stopped, my legs started to ache. The outside of the leg near the knee. The IT Bands.....It kept me up at night. I started the D3 again and I slept well that night with no pain. So for me, the V D3 is essential. And I'm happy to find that it's absorbing in my system correctly, because within a day it reversed the pain. Sometimes I just have to experiment to get answers...... the more I listen to medical advisors, the less help I get :0) JOT
