Guest guest
, once you get on the dose of thyroid hormone your body requires, your symptoms will start to subside and slowly you should start to lose weight. This often happens without specific dieting. This is because your metabolism starts to speed up and this makes everything get back to normal. With lack of thyroid support, your metabolism stays very low and you are unable to burn off any calories, that's why you are unable to lose weight. I think you are wise to stick to y our present dose of T3 for the moment and see how things pan out. Yes, I have seen people lose weight and get their health back - and I have gone through this process myself. I am very healthy and happy, but could do with losing a little bit around my tum/bum area - but I am not grumbling. It is good health that is important. These things do not happen overnight. There is a school of thought that believe that once a patient is on thyroid hormone replacement, there is no need for serum thyroid function tests - this is because a patient should have their dose increased/decreased according to their symptoms and signs, temperature, pulse, BP etc. An art that doctors have forgotten. Luv - Sheila I read on another forum (by a mod) that it needed to be 18 hours before a test so thats why I went with that. I will leave it 24 hours next time but as you said, it still doesn't explain such a high ft3. I guess me going from 3 to 3 1/2 grains was just me being impatient. Prior to that, I had stuck with the sttm guidelines and intended to raise within those until I was back to normal or if I ran into any hyper symptoms along the way I would definately reduce back to the previous dose. I didn't expect my ft3 to get so high without hyper symptoms. I don't really want to reduce the dose as I'm afraid it will be a step backwards. At the same time, I no longer intend to continue raising. I can't justify it with those results. I just can't understand why I dont have hyper symptoms now. Do you think that the remaining issue of weight could just need time to start to resolve. Have you seen this happen or anything else? I was able to maintain and lose weight before all this with little to moderate effort but cannot shift a lb despite putting in the effort over the past year (although I was on levo up until June 1st).
