All on the AIDS-India list,

I am from India and I attended the 6th ICAAP. I have

been a mute spectator thus far on this extremely

stupid allegation of supposed racism at the ICAAP

which has been aired on the AIDS-India list. I wish to

state that the impression that this mail creates is as

if every Indian in attendance felt that they were

racially discriminated against.

I do not feel that there was any racism at the ICAAP

and feel that such postings should be conveying the

views of the author and should not purport to speak of

all Indians who attended.

The allegations on food are sanguinely petty and I

think every Indian who has gray matters should sit up

and think what image it conveys of ourselves to the

rest of the world. We must also think on what is the

purpose of all our high strung AIDS activists in

attending the ICAAP and other conferences like this.

No one has thus far really spoken of what they have

learned, what they have carried back, or how thay have

contributed to the HIV/AIDS cause in the ICAAP.

Instead they are busy making personal attacks on

individuals or bickering over petty things like the

type of food served. And they do not speak for

themselves, they speak on behalf of others without

authorisation.

Really let us do some soul searching stop this

sillyness.

Dear Forum members,

I think we should be extremely careful in saying

anything about an experience and generalizing it for

all unless there are very specific bases to do that.

I tend to agree with Aditya that that in such

instances we create a feeling of disbelief and it

leads us nowhere. And issues of food etc are too

petty (accorging to me please) to be taken through this

discussion group.

As an individual I might have felt just the other

way round just as many others might have also felt. In

fact the way it was carried out, I felt the congress

to be very democratic.
