Guest guest
Stacey, You don't seem to have a problem converting T4 to T3, but you may have a problem using the T3. (cellular resistance). Reverse T3 can stop you using the t3 becuse the RT3 blocks the receptor cells. You can ask your doc for a reverse T3 test or you can resort to getting a private test.. Genova did mine... However, your TSH is still a bit high... how about trying more T4, (though if you have a reverse T3 problem it will make it worse.) TSH on thyroxine is ususlly low (less than 1) and T4 towards the top end of the range . > > Anyway, if someone has FT3 at near the top of the range - 5.2 and their t4 has gone up 11.2 to 12 and TSH has gone down from 2.7 to 1.68 since being on thyroxine - only 25mcgs - but obviously still have symptoms and feel like I might as well be taking smarties! I had read that there are issues with reversal of T3 which is not apparent from those above tests. > > So - my question - what tests for RT3? And who might identify with the above? > > Many thanks > S >
Guest guest
Hi , Thanks for that - can I just ask though if my T4 is now 12 and I think the range went up to 19? My T4 still has a way to go?I know it is early days but I have to go and see one of the GPs next week and I am hoping to see the more sympathetic one - I think the GP I had the test results from last week via tel consultation was trying to say that as my TSH was within the range - so had gone down from 2.7 to .1.68 that I was now OK anad she wanted me to go in and discuss my symptoms - saying that there may be something else which is making me tired - completely ignoring the long list of other symptoms that I provided and is scanned onto their system, including the Endo letter saying that it was nothing to do with menapause/pms/depression and all my symptoms were highly suggestive of thyroid issues! I will look at the Geneva labs RT3 test in the meantime. Guest guest
Hi Stacey, around 90% of healthy folk have a TSH of 1.0 yours isn't that low yet, also your fT4 is near the bottom of the range- which ofter goes up to 24- so find out the range for your labs and ask for a dose increase 'to see if it helps' the tests aren't brilliant at pinpointing the problems- we can feel like something the cat dragged in at one end of the range and OK at the other. Pity as always there is no Ft3 as this would tell if you can convert T4 inert T4 to the active T3. Oh have you has a ferrtin tested lately- low iron can make you tired- and is also neede for proper thyroid absorption. > thyroid treatment > From: stacey57@...> Date: Sun, 1 Aug 2010 10:55:27 +0000> Subject: Re: RT3 -stiff back/unable to bend.> > Hi ,> Thanks for that - can I just ask though if my T4 is now 12 and I think the range went up to 19? Guest guest
Hi , The last ferritin was 120 - sorry no range was printed with the results and my B12 was 292 (200-660). Will get a print off of my bloods this week - I think the nurse had written FT4 and FT3 on the envelope - I didn't get the range for the 3. I get a bit confused - doesn't take much these days - so I need the FT3 or the T3 -? I have started to take Spatone natural iron supplement along with my 200 selenium, 1-2 Nutri Adrenal tabs and magnesium/zinc. Thanks S
Guest guest
Hi Stacey, the usual ferritin range is very wide from about 30 to 350 or something, we usually say a minimum of 90 so that's fine. Test should be FT3 to test T3 lebvels- I do hope it has been dome- but you know what labsare like. > thyroid treatment > From: stacey57@...> Date: Sun, 1 Aug 2010 15:26:48 +0000> Subject: Re: RT3 -stiff back/unable to bend.> > > Hi ,> > The last ferritin was 120 - sorry no range was printed with the results and my B12 was 292 (200-660).> > Will get a print off of my bloods this week - I think the nurse had written FT4 and FT3 on the envelope - I didn't get the range for the 3.> I get a bit confused - doesn't take much these days - so I need the FT3 or the T3 -?> > I have started to take Spatone natural iron supplement along with my 200 selenium, 1-2 Nutri Adrenal tabs and magnesium/zinc.> > Thanks> S> > > > ------------------------------------> > TPA is not medically qualified.
