Here's a link to Thyroid UK's reply to an article that appeared in Pulse

magazine:

http://www.thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/pages/documents/Response%20to%20Pulse%20Magazine\

%2016.6.10..pdf

I can't find the article on line (don't know if anyone else can?) but from the

reply it seems that Toft thinks only a few of us can't get better on T4 only and

that dessicated thyroid is bad ***t, with all the usual excuses - inconsistant

from batch to batch ect. grrr...

And I always thought Toft was one of the " goodies " :0(

Hi Louise, Lyn has put together an excellent letter and I hope

that Toft takes note.

I can never quite get the measure of this guy, he is well known

for changing his mind in the past, seems he is still having difficulty. I will,

however, send him a copy of my response to the BTA's Statement on Armour Thyroid

as he obviously has not yet got around to reading it, even though I sent it to

him in 2008. All his comments have been taken care of in my response and I

cited over 148 references to the medical evidence.

I was not aware of the survey carried out by Thyroid UK though.

I was only aware of the Hypothyroid Patient Survey carried out by TPA in

2005/2006. It would be great to have the results of this survey so we can use

them in our campaigns to bring about changes in the diagnosis and treatment of

hypothyroidism too. Has anybody got access to this please and will you let me

have a copy.

Luv - Sheila

Perhaps Toft would like to think for himself but he's been " got at " :0(

I hadn't realised that Thyroid UK had done a thyroid medication survey either

until the other day. Recently the've started having " the big question " . A tab at

the side of the home page takes you too it; this month they're asking " At what

age were you diagnosed (on the NHS) " ; it shows the percentages after you vote.

I only wish he would stop quoting from information given by the

British Thyroid Association's various statements which they never ever backed

up with references to the scientific evidence, even though they have been asked

to produce this so many, many times. It is quite appalling. As he was President

of the BTA at one time, perhaps we can thank him also for putting us all in

such an mess. Yet, he does agree that some patients need T3 - which goes

completely against the Royal College of Physicians and the BTA's latest

guidance.

I can never see any real benefit that come from online surveys

where you just click a button of your choice - people can go back at any time

and click a completely different button as they are not password or email

protected. I am not so trusting that I believe people only ever go and click

one button ONCE. Perhaps I am just a big cynic, but then, I have been well

trained.

Is this how the Thyroid UK survey was carried out that Lyn

mentions in her response to Toft I wonder?

I wondered how useful it is but I think this feature is being run by a

firm/website called Health unlocked. It's a fairly new feature (only been on the

site for a few weeks) and, in Lynne Mynott's reply to the Toft article, it says

their medication survey was carried out in 2008, so I don't think it could have

been done this way.
