Hi All

I need to start taking my temps so I can go and see Dr P but I can't seem to

find anywhere that sells mercury thermometers - I have a digital basal one but

I'm not sure if they are considered accurate enough?

I bought a second hand mercury one off ebay this week and when it arrived altho

it looked perfect it didn't seem to work - the mercury didn't rise. So I put it

into a cup of lukewarm water and left it, only to return and find all the

mercury had run out the bottom and formed a ball.

This has really put me off buying another one like that so I was just wondering

if anyone still sells them new?

Many thanks

Bunny

Hi, I had a long and fruitless search for a mercury thermometer. Pharmacist said

that they are illegal now and knew nothing of glass alcohol thermometers either.

However, a few weeks later he has a pile of the alcohol ones which cost little

over £1. I was ectatic to find one ! Think they are better than digital. X

I bought this non-mercury basal thermometer which seemed to work okay (haven't

used it in a while).....

I don't really like to recommend mercury ones as I smashed one by accident and

the information I read while trying to do the clean-up afterward really put me

off ever buying a mercury one again.

If you are dead set on mercury then maybe try asking your local chemist.

Thanks Everyone - I'm not that fussed about it being mercury but was just going

by Dr P's book where he says they are more accurate - I was put off by the one I

bought leaking and would much rather just use the digital one I already have -

but will take a look at the ones you mentioned, so thanks.

Hi , Just as well it leaked in a cup and not in your mouth!! I believe the digital ones are more accurate if you leave them in longer than suggested. > thyroid treatment > From: karen.liff@...> Date: Fri, 28 May 2010 10:18:05 +0000> Subject: Re: Any ideas where I can but a new mercury thermometer?> > Thanks Everyone - I'm not that fussed about it being mercury but was just going by Dr P's book where he says they are more accurate - I was put off by the one I bought leaking and would much rather just use the digital one I already have - but will take a look at the ones you mentioned, so thanks.> > > > > > ------------------------------------> > TPA is not medically qualified. Hi

Yes I thought that! I'd actually put it in my mouth and wondered why it wasn't

working before I tried it in the cup, so it was rather worrying. The digital

thermometer I already have tho beeps after a minute of so to give the reading so

presumeably stops measuring so I'm not sure if that would work with mine.

Will give it a go tho - thanks.
