Guest guest
You need to keep taking some form of elemental iron until your ferritin level is between 70 and 90 Fiona. You need to eat a good diet rich in iron too - and DON'T take your iron anywhere near to your thyroid hormone replacement. Luv - Sheila In addition to the now waste of time hospital appointment. I have also been re-investigating my iron stores. A while back despite taking an iron supplement, the Ferritin had gone down to 19. I managed to persuade the GP for a prescription and after a good bit of persuasion, a repeat blood test.. Going off the fact that I have seen quick improvements since using Ferrous Sulphate, I will stick with it and at some point try and get it prescribed on an ongoing basis. Despite that GPs reservations, I did walk out with a prescription for more Ferrous Sulphate to keep me going a few months. No virus found in this incoming message. Guest guest
I think at our next TPA Dinner and Conference, I will bring a big basket of Granny 's apples with 4 " nails sticking out of them and hand them round to everybody…. everybody could take their nail home with them to stick in another apple. I like this idea . Fiona, give it a try, there is nothing like good old herbal remedies. Guest guest
Hi Fiona: It takes 90 days to create new red blood cells and it's an ongoing process. Ferritin at LEAST should be 70-90. But better at 120. Once you're at a good level then you can reduce the amount of iron supplement but it generally takes a good year to get it up. It's one of those things...It helps to take iron with Vitamin C because it helps with absorption. I take my iron and Vitamin C before I go to bed and I tend to sleep better when I do. My Medical Advisor says that Iron doesn't have anything to do with me sleeping better at night, but she is incorrect. We can only tune in to our own symptoms and results... Do you mean just give it more time and perhaps later in the year the levels will increase? Or do you mean that I potentially need medical advice and a higher dose to reach the mentioned objective? Did you find you just stayed with the same dose and gradually it improved to 70-90? Don't worry about the vit C, am getting plenty of that as well. Interesting you mention about sleeping better then. Guest guest
Very low levels of ferritin need medical advice. If doctors believe your levels are fine BECAUSE they are SOMEWHERE within the reference range, this shows they know nothing about these problems, and you have to treat yourself until your levels rise - and this could take weeks, or months. Take the iron, the large doses of vitamin C - eat plenty of red meat and foods high in iron to build your levels up as quickly as possible. How much iron are you taking daily? Guest guest
> Very low levels of ferritin need medical advice. Fair enough, I'll raise this then. I am currently taking 2 Ferrous Sulphate daily and have done for over 3 months and plenty of Vit C. Cheers! Fiona
