Hi,

Any comments on this message would be greatly appreciated.

The nurse called and gave me my blood test results today. The nurse immediately

booked me in with my doctor. He is usually booked out for 6 weeks or so, but

she arranged an appt for me to see him this coming Monday because someone

cancelled their appt. As mentioned in another message, my 'clotting' blood

tests came back as normal, even though I am still getting spontaneous

bruising... hmmm. will need to look into that a bit more!

No wonder I've been so tired. My TSH is 7.3 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It was 0.53 in January 2010. I have just felt so awful lately, that I didn't

even notice the difference.

Before anyone suggests it, I have a bad reaction whenever I use T3, so it isn't

a treatment option for me. I am currently using 150mcg thyroxine each day and I

feel terrible no matter what my TSH level is. Thyroxine obviously isn't helping

me much (I've felt terrible since I started using it in 2007), however I don't

seem to have another treatment option, so I just have to put up with it. I am

religious with my thyroxine taking, so goodness knows why the TSH is 7.3.

Perhaps it is because I sometimes eat in less than an hour after taking it,

HOWEVER I did exactly the same thing when my TSH was 0.53, so go figure?! Any

ideas about why it might have risen so high?????

I have now put on a grand total of 23kg since around this time last year. Ye

gads, what is going on! I put on 12kg in less than 12 weeks last year and my

endo had no idea why. She said it was an unusual weight gain. Since then, I

have just kept on putting on the pounds despite what I do. Such joy - not!

I'm getting rather fed up with my health related issues. What with my thyroid

playing up and my migraines playing up and becoming unbearable, and neurological

symptoms where I couldn't control my fingers and had numbness and tingling down

one side of my body for months earlier this year, I think I've had my share

thanks very much (: - or should I put these smileys down as being slightly more

representative of how I feel right now I: or /: or O:

P xo – see below for my test results

------------------------

Here are the various test results that were returned today:

THYROID FUNCTION TESTS

** TSH 7.3 (ref range 05 -4.0 mUI/L). It has increased quite a bit

because it was previously 0.53 in Jan 2010.

Free T4 15 (ref range 10 - 25 pmol/L). It usually is around 15-16, except

for January 2010 when it was 24.

Free T3 4.2 (ref range 3.1 - 5.4 pmol/L). It was 4.8 in Oct 09.

Pathology lab notes: The raised TSH may indicate insufficient thyroxine therapy.

Suggest review does and patient compliance, and continued monitoring with FT4

and TSH.

----------------------------

B12/FOLATE STUDIES

Serum Vitamin B12 344 (ref range 140 – 700 pmol/L)

Serum Folate 22.8 (ref range 6.5 – 45.0 nmol/L)

------------------------

IRON STUDIES

Ferritin 38 (15 – 250 ug/L)

Iron 8 (8 – 30 umol/L)

Transferrin 3.11 (2.00 – 4.00 g/L)

Transferrin saturation 10% (10 – 35)

Pathology lab notes: Vegetarian status noted. Low iron and low saturation in

presence of normal ferritin. These results do not exclude iron deficiency if

inflammation or chronic disease is present. Suggest correlate with clinical

history.

---------------------------

LIPID STUDIES

Total triglycerides 1.2 (ref range 0.3 - 2.0 mmol/L)

** Total cholesterol 7.1 (up from 6.2 in Oct 09, and 5.7 in Jan 09).

(should be < 5.5mmol/L)

HDL cholesterol 1.6 (ref range 1.0 - 2.2)

LDL cholesterol (calculated) 5.0 (should be < 3.7)

Total cholesterol/HDL ratio 4.4 (should be < 5.0)

The notes on the cholesterol results form state the following: There has been a

significant deterioration of the lipid profile since last analysis. Suggest

monitor diet and repeat fasting lipids, after 12hr fast, in 3 months.
