Guest guest
This post is from another board, but i want to post it here because it very simply explains why T4 doesnt work for many people. I explained T4 had worked for me for 3 months and then BAM i have basically fallen over. This is the helpful and insightful reply: It seems this happens to quite a few. It's not if, but when, this will happen for many. Getting some T3 directly takes a lot of stress off the body. T4 demands that ferritin, B12 and electrolytes are up. It also will demand the right amount of cortisol to get converted properly. Without getting enough thyroid metabolism due to something not being just " perfect " for the T4 to work, the body gets stressed. Then something else goes out. For instance, low gastric secretion of enzymes and acid decrease B12 and iron absorption leading to a problem down the road. T4 will clear out cortisol, but if cortisol then falls to low, there's not enough T3 to support the adrenals and they blow out. For those that have most of these functions working, they can work with some T4. The difference is that the body's thyroid puts out hormones from T4 to T1 and if you replace everything with T4 only, that surely isn't how things work best. So those can switch to desiccated thyroid and do swimmingly. Some just have to go to T3 only so that they're not fighting against a poor conversion. It's easier to work on the deficiencies to fix that, but take T3 during that time so your body gets all the T3 it needs, and then switch back to desiccated thyroid if things are really out of line. But if one stays on T4 and tries to sort this out, it's much harder.
