Guest guest
Hi all, I was wondering if anyone of you with Hashimoto's has undergone laser eye surgery. I had a consultation for eye laser treatment and was told that with autoimmune diseases there's a bigger risk of complications, so I might not be suitable. When I spoke to the optician at Optimax, he had never heard of Hashimoto's and it also wasn't on the contraindications list. I am now waiting for them to tell me whether they can treat me or not. Does anyone have any experiences with this? Thanks.
Guest guest
Hi , Here's my experience. I had corrective laser eye surgery back in May 2003 at Optimax. Thinking I had a lazy left eye, I went ahead with the treatment anyway not knowing that I had an underline autoimmune disease.I then threw away my specs and contact lenses, thinking it was the best thing I'd ever done! No more glasses! I feel it was and still is the best decision I made, but I didn't know and nor did anyone else notice that I possibly did not have a lazy left eye since age 19 (now 35) but a right eye with proptosis. I was finally diaognosed with Graves Disease in November 2006 and I am now Hypothyroid since RAI treatment a year ago. My eye sight is still perfect thankfully since the laser surgery although my vision when driving at night is a little weaker. I still have the right eye proptosis of 1-2mm, but only really so noticable when I'm very tired, in photos, or if you stare. No big deal tho. I considered optical decompression but am too chicken to go ahead. I've had to get used to my funny right eye. Like having to clean the right lense of my sunglasses often as my eye lash mascara rubs onto it! :-) Good luck with your decision. Best wishes, Rupa x > > Hi all, > > I was wondering if anyone of you with Hashimoto's has undergone laser eye surgery. > > I had a consultation for eye laser treatment and was told that with autoimmune diseases there's a bigger risk of complications, so I might not be suitable.
