Guest guest
Hi Donna I think you need to ask your GP to test to see whether you have thyroid antibodies or not, as this could be your problem. Thyroid antibodies set about destroying your thyroid gland, and when they become active, you can get the symptoms of hyPERthyroidism, and when they are not, the symptoms of hyPOthyroidism. Are you taking 200mcgs Selenium daily because this element is absolutely essential to all sufferers of hypothyroidism. Any chance you could see one of our Medical Advisers, either Dr Skinner, Dr Peatfield or Dr Mantzourani as you appear right to be stuck between a rock and a hard place and you need a doctor who knows about thyroid/adrenal problems. Thyroid function tests are not to be relied on and doctors should not assume you are hyperthyroid because your TSH is suppressed, there are many reasons this could be happening, the most obvious being that you are now taking all the thyroid hormones your body requires, though because of your symptoms, obviously have not found the correct dose your body needs to get rid of all or your symptoms It really is NOT enough just to have your TSH tested, this is a pituitary hormone anyway, and is not a thyroid hormone. We need to know what you’re the level of T4 and T3 is in your blood, though it would be preferable to know how much T4 and T3 your body is actually using, and this can only be tested through a 24 hour urine test done by Genova Diagnostics (TPA members get discounts on their tests - see Files under DISCOUNTS). the 24 hour T3/T4 test normally costs £100, but TPA members pay only £85. It really is essential that you get the 24 hour salivary test to check the levels of your DHEA and Cortisol and the normal price for this is £70 but TPA members pay £60. I know these are very expensive, but I would beg, borrow or steal to get the money to pay for these because the NHS do not do them. Below is the info you need to be able to get the discounts: In order to receive your discount, please DO NOT order direct from their web site. You need to Tel +44(0)20 8336 7750 or +44(0)20 8336 7752 (Direct) - or you can Email NAbraham@.... When you complete your order, please remember to quote ‘Thyroid Patient Advocacy UK as ‘PRACTITIONER’, or you will not be given the discount. For the moment, if you are still feeling shaky (are you experiencing palpitations?) it would do no harm to stop taking your thyroid hormone replacement for 24 hours (even 48 hours) to see whether that will help you feel better. Nothing sinister will happen by stopping, but it will give your adrenals time to recuperate as they are obviously working overtime trying to make all the other gland in your body function as they should. You might find that taking natural progesterone cream might help your period problem. The best is 'Serenity' and is highly recommended by people on this forum who have used it. Read what Dr Lam has to say about the adrenal/thyroid/ovarian connection http://www.drlam.com/articles/ovarian_adrenal_thyroid.asp Luv - Sheila I am pretty desperate at the moment to get myself sorted. I have no one who can help me and I am a lone parent with 2 energetic children youngest is 3 and I have no energy for them. There are not really any good doctors that I have come across who will listen and work with me. The hardest thing is not knowing whats wrong with me. Although I appear to be hyperthyroid my private doc says I am hypothyroid (he looks at peoples clinical symptoms rater than relying too much on blood tests) I do display symptoms of hypothyroid eg, fatigue, hairloss, feel cold, low temp, slow thinking and heart racing, very heavy periods that can last for more than 7 days. I get clinical symptoms for both hypo and hyper states so I am confused. Maybe you can help shed some light. My gp says I am hyper because my TSH is so low and my FT4 is so high No virus found in this incoming message.
