Hydrocortisone (problems)

Hi Everyone,

I have a question or two regarding HC. This past Wednesday on the

recommendation of DR P and some of the great advice I received from people on

here (thanks Lethal Lee) I began a course of HC to treat some obvious adrenal

problems that have been preventing me from tolerating thyroid meds; t3 and

Naturethroid. My Adrenal Profile from late June revealed a noticeable flat line

with all my sample significantly below reference range.

Well I had been off T3 for about 10 days (12.5mcg only) and began 15mg of HC in

a divided dose. I hadn't touched dessicated thyroid in a month or so. Wednesday

I felt strange; my face felt hot, I was noticeably warmer and tad hungrier.

Thursday was basically the same however I noticed a dull headache and felt

somewhat anxious. I decided to lower the dose down. Friday I noticed that I

felt shaky and a little anxious, and had a persistent headache. Fridat night I

suffered insomnia. Saturday I decided to lower the dose down. I took 5mg in

the am and 2.5 mg about midday. Within an hour and a half of the second dose I

was experiencing panic attacks; anxiety and noticed that I was tachycardic. I

spent most of day tying to relax and stayed away from the HC (obviously). The

symptoms diminished, however I felt exhausted and edgey for most of the day.

Sunday I took two 2.5mg doses and experienced headaches and slight (periodic)

anxiety-type symptoms. Today, I havent taken any, I dont really plan to either.

Throughout this time I have been taking 4 NAX daily, as per Dr P's

recommendations. Symptoms prior to starting HC included anxiety and panic also,

along with variable and low morning temps. I must admit, I feel a little

deflated. I havent been able to tolerate T3 nor dessicated thyroid. NAX had'nt

really helped me too much.

I am not certain if I have experienced a thyroid 'dump' or if I really cannot

tolerate the HC. Today (Monday) I still have a headache and feel slightly

anxious. However these symptoms were there prior to starting the HC anyway. Ive

noticed that my hands feel 'tight' and I have started to experience Carpal

Tunnel symptoms. I would imagine that is due to a lack of T3.

I guess mu question would be: are these reactions not uncommon? And has

anybody else experienced the same?

I speak to Dr P again on Wednesday for an update.
