I am asking to back up our case with the GP who is reluctant to believe that Kate does not have arthritis because she has high-ish CRP/ESR levels but has Hashimoto's symptoms. Can anybody with the arthritic symptoms please post on here or email me? Did thyroxine help with the swollen joints/stiffness etc. or did T3 do the trick? Looking forward to hearing from you! Hi Margaret, I don't often post on the forum, but,I have to tell you! I was on thyroxine only and had constant pain in my legs, etc. But, also pain under my arm. I went to my GP and he referred me to the hospital, as I was concerned that it could be a lump. However, I was diagnosed with arthritis on the chest wall!! To cut a long story short, soon after this I decided to try Armour, and a lot of my pain went away. Then a few years later I decided to try all T3, and do NOT have any pain in my legs or anywhere else, that is caused by lack of T3. I would never go back on T4 only, even after my GP threatened to strike me off his list if I didn't!! South.
Guest guest
Hi, I have arthritic symptoms with a very high ESR well above the normal range, have extreme pains in leg joints and even muscles. I am at present only on T4 Levothyroxine on 150 mcg's per day and have been for over a year. I am seeing a Consultant Rheumatologist next week about what they call 'inflammatory arhtritis'. So far blood tests from a private Rheumatologist haven't thrown any light on what is causing all this joint and muscle pain. I have ordered some T3 via the internet and have just ordered some Erfa because I think I might be allergic to synthetic thyroxine, I really don't know at present but its all 'trial and error' until I find out and cure whatever is causing all this. Best wishes. Ann. > Hi again, > > I wonder how many ladies on here have or have had arthritis symptoms. Guest guest
Hi Margaret As far as I'm concerned, when I was taking levothyroxine-only, I developed severe, disabling pain in my lower back, under both heels and shoulders. A private Hormone Specialist found I was not converting the mainly INACTIVE thyroxine to the ACTIVE thyroid hormone T3, which is needed by every cell in the body and brain to make them function. T4 has to convert through the liver, kidneys, skin, brain and other thyroid hormone receptors throughout the body, but for many and varied reasons, some of us can't. He prescribed natural thyroid extract for me that includes T4, T3, T2, T1 plus calcitonin. The pains completely disappeared and this was 7 years ago, never to return. I have heard this story over and over again. Guest guest
Hi Ladies, Thank you very much for your input. More printouts for the file! Incidentally I spoke to another hypo friend of mine earlier. She has been on T4 for ages but had no improvement and has not lost any weight. I told her to ask about Levothyronine which she did, having gone to a different GP. The new GP said he would investigate it and when she returned she was put on a trial of it. The GP joked he would get in trouble with the NHS due to the cost. £126 per month as opposed to £2 something! I just hope she can stay on it as she says she is so much better and has lost a bit of weight. Her daughter has had tests and of course they are 'normal' but now she knows about the range then she will be back to her GP too! The word is being spread. Thanks again, Margaret > Hi Margaret > > As far as I'm concerned, when I was taking levothyroxine-only, I developed

Guest guest
Hi Margaret, when you say your friends doctor is giving her a trial of levothyroxine, I think you mean natural desiccated thyroid extract (i.e, Armour Thyroid, Erfa Thyroid)? There are many, many doctors who are telling their patients that the cost is so terribly high against the cost of prescribing levothyroxine, and this information came from the British Thyroid Association who wrote in their Statement on Armour Thyroid incorrect figures. I found the true cost from NHS Prescription Pricing Division and they gave me the true facts concerning cost and here they are below. I wrote a long response to the BTA Statement asking them to amend several misleading and incorrect statements, and the only one they amended (by removing reference to cost altogether) was that one. If any doctor turns a patient's request for a prescription of Armour Thyroid down because of the high cost, copy out the table below and take it to him. Simon son (2007), Head of Medicines, Pharmacy & Industry Business Unit, Department of Health (July 2007) sent TPA-UK a breakdown of the actual cost of the different dose tablets of Armour®. The average cost per unit of the differing strengths of Armour® Thyroid dispensed in primary care over the course of the year April 2006 to March 2007 is outlined in the table below. A pharmacist stated the average cost of all prescriptions per patient, per calendar month is £20.00. The cost of Armour (apart from the 240mg tablet), is far below this. Strength Est. unit cost in pence: Est. cost for one month supply Armour® Thyroid 240mg 79 £22.12 Armour® Thyroid 180mg 46 £12.88 Armour® Thyroid 120mg 43 £12.04 Armour® Thyroid 90mg 34 £9.52 Armour® Thyroid 60mg 31 £8.68 Armour® Thyroid 30mg 27 £7.56 Armour® Thyroid 15mg 19 £5.32 NB. Levothyroxine sodium 150 mcgs costs £1.52 per 28 days supply and is equivalent to about 120mg Armour® Thyroid costing £12.04 per calendar month. Doesn't this show the lies that are being perpetrated by such organisations as the BTA have Big Pharma behind them. Luv - Sheila Incidentally I spoke to another hypo friend of mine earlier. Guest guest
Hi Margaret, I don't know where that liothyronine is coming from or how much she is taking but that sounds ridiculously expensive- it's not Boots is it again? Suggest she tries another small chemist- they will probably be a lot cheaper- thus reassuring her doc. > thyroid treatment > From: margaretp09@...> Date: Fri, 23 Jul 2010 18:38:03 +0000> Subject: Re: Arthritic Symptoms and Hashimoto's> > Hi Ladies,> > Thank you very much for your input.
