Hi Helen, Those test results don't look all that bad to me and at my local area T3 is 3.0 to 6.5 so it will be interesting to see what you ranges actually are. If you were taking Armour they you would expect a very low TSh low FT4 and high FT3- which is just what you have. The problem is that the endo is looking at the tests and not listening to the symptoms! Id you have low adrenals which are not low enough to be 's then the NHs does not treat- though it may well be the reason why you are not feeling well and probably not utilising thyroid hormones properly. > thyroid treatment > From: oxleyhelen@...> Date: Thu, 15 Jul 2010 13:36:11 +0000> Subject: Advice needed on high ft3 and low tsh low ft4> > My recent blood tests have come back showing tsh 0.03 ft4 13 (11-25) and ft3 5.3 (range ? to 5). My results are in the post to me so will be able to see full ref ranges later. I came off Armour as instructed by my endo for 2 weeks prior to the tests and was put on 25mg levo instead. Previously before the Armour that I took for 2 months my results were tsh 0.14, ft4 11.1 (11-25) and my ft3 1.2 (1-2.5). I was very well on the Armour and have been unwell since coming off it. > > My question is, am I overactive if my ft3 is just above the range but my ft4 at the low end (my tsh has been suppressed for years even tho I've been hypothyroid). My endo says I am hyper yet I'm showing all signs of hypothyroidism and am now struggling to work.> > I know I have adrenal fatigue - I have all the symptoms and 2 short syncathen tests came back borderline low.> > any ideas would be much appreciated-thanks> > Helen> > > > ------------------------------------> > TPA is not medically qualified. Hi Helen,

I was told both T4 and T3 were best to be kept at top of range and

if need be T3 can be over if thats where I feel good. Its something

to do with the Graves, can't remember the exact explanation but its

something to do with us being Hyper....need more fuel :-)

Why do some endo's do this, I'm sure I put a file on here about

suppressed TSH with Graves even when Hypo.

So maybe its more medication you need. I used to question myself as

well when they were saying to me I was Hyper because of TSH but you're

the same as me...we know when we're Hyper (or used to be in my case)

Hope you feel better soon.

Love Tess

Hi Tess, Graves patients TSH is kept low as this will discourage regrowth of cancer cells which may occur is TSH is higher and a goitre starts to form. What has always annoyed me is that Graves patients are 'allowed' a low TSH but the rest of us aren't- and feel sick as a result! > thyroid treatment > From: tessfleming@...> Date: Fri, 16 Jul 2010 13:44:38 +0000> Subject: Re: Advice needed on high ft3 and low tsh low ft4> > Hi Helen,> > I was told both T4 and T3 were best to be kept at top of range and> if need be T3 can be over if thats where I feel good. Hi and Tess, thanks for your reply. When you feel so low and ill it means

SO much to know there's somewhere where people will listen to you!!

I've actually asked for copies of all my results because I had bloods taken when

I was on Armour and then bloods 2 weeks after I came off it and I'm not sure the

endo was looking at the blood test dates correctly. I did come away questioning

myself but my morning temp has dropped to 36.5 so I can't be hyper with this and

these symptoms. I've been bed/sofa ridden now for a few days and had to take

time off work, I'm so tired and aching and my tendonitis pain has come back-I'm

almost at a standstill.

Also I asked for a referral to mental health services, I've been so depressed

and having suicidal thoughts. I think if I have CBT help and counselling I may

be able to cope with this better and be more positive

Starting on 1 nax and now 1 Armour/day and going to increase in a week.

Hi Tess and , I have Grave's (not thyroid cancer) but had sub total

thyroidectomy which has left me hypo but occasionally I have gone hyper as the

remaining bit of my gland has swollen up into a small goiter. My tsh is usually

suppressed or low even when I have extreme hypo symptoms. I need to trust my own

instincts after 18yrs of this disease but still doubt myself after seeing endos

giving me contrary advice to what I feel is right.

Cancer of the thyroid is a totally different entity from Grave's disease but

yes, thyroid cancer sufferers are kept with tsh suppressed and ft4 and ft3 in

the upper end of the ranges to prevent regrowth of thyroid cancer cells and so

get to feel much better than us lot that are medicated by using stupid reference

range targets.

Btw have been reading up on reference range papers and studies show that

INDIVIDUALS' variations in thyroid hormones is much smaller than the wide

population reference ranges which is what I suspected myself all along from my

own experience. I feel unwell when my tsh goes above 2 and when my ft4 goes

below 20. So how can the BTA and british medical advisors say that thyroid

disease suffereres should be medicated to get within the reference ranges is

just a complete nonsense and extremely worrying - these medical proffessionals

are supposed to be intelligent people!!!!

Hi ,

TSH is not kept low in patients with Graves disease. We're not " allowed " a low

TSH....think you misunderstood me. Patients with Graves disease can have

undetectable TSH levels even when badly Hypo, in

Graves TSH can stay suppressed for years hence idiot doctors telling

us we are Hyper when we are not...eg when my FT4 was under range at 7

last year GP was adamant I was still Hyper as my TSH was still 0.001.

It's to do with the TRab effect on the Pituitary gland so even after

removal of the thyroid TSH can still be suppressed.

So we can be kept sick as well because all they see is a suppressed TSH!

hi Tess, another reason the TSh is a poor test! > thyroid treatment > From: tessfleming@...> Date: Sat, 17 Jul 2010 14:52:58 +0000> Subject: Re: Advice needed on high ft3 and low tsh low ft4> > Hi ,.> It's to do with the TRab effect on the Pituitary gland so even after> removal of the thyroid TSH can still be suppressed.> So we can be kept sick as well because all they see is a suppressed TSH!> > Love Tess> > > > >> > > > Hi Tess,> > Graves patients TSH is kept low as this will discourage regrowth of cancer cells which may occur is TSH is higher and a goitre starts to form.> > What has always annoyed me is that Graves patients are 'allowed' a low TSH but the rest of us aren't- and feel sick as a result!> > > > > >> > > > > ------------------------------------> > TPA is not medically qualified. Hi ,

My friend had her thyroid out in march for cancer, and they are going to keep

her TSH suppressed to stop any cancer coming back.

I feel the same as you, why not suppress all our thyroids so we don't get it in

the first place. It seems so unfair, it seems to me that the treatment will

get is what we all should have. so i will watch wait and see.

Her gp phoned this week telling her she was hyper, because her tt4 was a little

over. I told she wasn't because her TSH is 2 and she has a pulse of 50, she

is 68. I think tt4 is a little high because she take blood pressure pills.

Her oncologist has told her all her thyroid results need to be faxed through to

her as the gps wouldn't understand. Her gp came across as this was inconvenient.

What a ..... the stories just go on don't they.

you cant get easier than a fax can you. Doc said why cant they do it at the

hospital, cant she see that it might help the specialist if they were done before

she gets their.

I am going to try to go with for app, for support and i might learn

something.

love Stevie
