Guest guest
Lynn, yes inositol is a B vitamin. It is eliminated through urine so it is safe to take as far as you can't get too much. It has been known to cause gas though. That is why you start slow and work up. There is info on it in the files section of this group. I don't give Bre that, but I do give her a B-50 complex and fish oil. There have been studies fish oil is good for depression, which she gets at times, and good for the heart. I take it too. We both feel good, so must be working! Sandy -- In , Lynnelle <lynnovale@...> wrote: > > I think I've heard that Inositol is actually a B > vitamin. I remember my son had such a horrible time swallowing pills!! His baby sister was able to do it before he could! Guest guest
I would ask your DAN doctor what the safe maximum is, and keep working up to that limit. Also, I read that caffeine can inhibit inositol absorbtion, so you may want to doublecheck that he isn't eating chocolate or drinking pop. And I don't think inositol works for everyone. Guest guest
Amber, The inositol I believe is to help with anxiety and have a calming effect. I use a product called Gaba that has inositol and Niacinamide in it. It is made by Kirkman. I give my son 1 capsule three times a day and he isn't as frustrated and sleeps like a baby. Gaba also helps with speech. Hope that helps. kennetheriklucy <eislerfamily@...> wrote: A couple of months ago, my DAN recommended giving my son inositol after he saw him slap himself in the head in his office. What’s the protocol on the Mercury list – haven’t accessed it for ages and have over 18.000 mails sitting there! Can you just write in and ask Andy a question? If so, think I’ll ask his advice on this. Guest guest
Eileen, I look at how many mg are in the 1/4 tsp. Because you will measure by teaspoons. Then you can figure out how long the bottle will last vs the cost, etc., that type thing. Different brands have been bought, there's no particular brand. We used Source Natural but others have bought different brands. How much to take due to weight doesn't really figure in. Here's an article: http://www.homestead.com/westsuffolkpsych/Inositol_and_OCD.html Hope this helps! > > which brands are used? how much with the inositol powder? - i saw 550 > mg and 1100 mg same price and how much would a 7 y.o. about 48 lbs

Guest guest
We did/do the powder form (buy online) and it's about 3 grams a teaspoon; take it 3 to 4x a day to get the dosage up higher for grams. Just put 1 tsp in some juice (we use a cup of Kool-Aid usually). It is too many pills to take if you are working on a higher dosage. So - the way we did it, the grams add up to " daily " not " each dose. " 's just starting it again, thus my " do " above. It is just a lot of pills to swallow all at once if you do it once a day (especially when you are aslo on psyc meds, fish oil , vitamins etc, etc... > >

Guest guest
Hi Joy, Here's an article on inositol powder and OCD: http://www.homestead.com/westsuffolkpsych/Inositol_and_OCD.html If you decide to try it, buy it online; locally it is expensive. And check the dosage on the brand you buy because the " strength " can differ with brands; for instance, our brand was 1/4 tsp = 845mg. Feel free to ask any questions after reading the article. Also just searching " inositol " through the archived posts for this group should turn up info. > > I've read several of the posters mention Inositol. Guest guest
Hi , From what I understand, inositol is tried mainly for OCD or trich (hair pulling) and maybe skin-picking. What dose of zoloft is your dd on, is she at recommended dosage? If you think of adding inositol, work with the prescribing doctor on this since they (zoloft and inositol) both work on serotonin. I don't recall reading anything about it regarding tics. We used it when (now 18) was in middle school. Tried it again this year, but it didn't help this time. > > Hi, everyone.
