Guest guest
I thought lack of thyroid hormones gave HIGH BP. So hypoT = High BP. Someone may be able to shed more light on this. > > Hi everyone since I started to research this site TPA a few weeks ago I am being educated regarding the pitfalls within the NHS regarding thyroid diagnosis and treatment. In 1992 my thyroid was removed due to cancer. Since then I have been prescribed 200mcgs of synthetic thyroxzine. Recently I have been told to reduce levels because they are too high. (down to 100mcg) This was precipitated by a barrage of symptoms which led to me seeing a cardiologist who found my blood pressure to be " dangerously high' and he cannot carry out relevant diagnostic exercise tests until my blood pressure is sorted. Guest guest
Hi, I had high blood pressure when both Hyper and Hypo but there was a difference in it, I`m almost sure its called pulse pressure but don`t quote me on that! When I was Hyper it could be say 180/90 when I was Hypo the bottom one I get mixed up with systolic and diastolic) it was more like 130/110. I`m sure they were more worried about the Hypo BP reading than they were about the Hyper though and I`m sure its to do with the difference between the two. Since op its constantly been 110/70. Guest guest
Hi Margaret, Did you mean 300mcg (microgam) not 300mgs (milligram) ? Bob > > Hi to everyone, is there anyone out there on 300mgs daily of thyroxin? >

Guest guest
Hi Jeannine, Have a look at http://www.endocrineweb.com- it has the clearest info I've seen on how the thyroid should work. If all that levothyroxine -T4- you've been taking isn't converting to the active hormone T3 liothyronine then you'll still have hypo symptoms- and seriously overmedicated may add in some hyper ones too- which seems to be the position that you were in on 200mcg, the average dose is around 125mcg. I stress that if you can't convert T4 to T3 then no amount of T4 will make you well. T3 can be prescribed on the NHS. Your BP may not drop on reduced T4- mine was still very high. Have a look at http://www.drrind.com/asp/scorecardmatrix to sort out hypo/adrenal symptoms. Taking magnesium can help lower BP without all the nasty side effects that some drugs can cause ( personal experience here) but you do need to find out why this is happening. ask doc to do TSH, FT4 and FT3 this willl show if you can convert as the levels of T4 and T3 shoud be similar within their ranges- ie both near the top quarter of the range. > thyroid treatment > From: mizjingles@...> Date: Wed, 12 May 2010 09:38:09 +0000> Subject: Hypothyroidism versus Hyperthyroidism> > Hi everyone since I started to research this site TPA a few weeks ago I am being educated regarding the pitfalls within the NHS regarding thyroid diagnosis and treatment. Every BP reading at GP surgery was high but no meds have been given to treat high blood pressure because the GP seems to be of the opinion that BP will drop now that levothyrozine is reduced. Am in a constant state of being 'spaced out' in my head sometimes to the point of loosing connection to the world. (passing out)> My concern is this: Could the long term use of levothyrozine actually results in hyperthyroidism and this in turn induces high blood pressure. In a nutshell my heart was affected (pain when asleep) and my adrenal glands may well be worn out due to being overworked because of hyper states that have become normal to me. What confuses me is this: All the reading and test results ie BP are showing up excessivly high yet my heart feels like it is barely beating......! Is this due to a lack of adrenal stimulation? Can anyone explain this please. > > thank you for this brill forum.....> > regards jeannie> > > > > ------------------------------------> > TPA is not medically qualified. Guest guest
hi, Yes it does, but so does hyper- it's the middle way that's OK > thyroid treatment > From: marsaday1971@...> Date: Wed, 12 May 2010 14:00:57 +0000> Subject: Re: Hypothyroidism versus Hyperthyroidism> > I thought lack of thyroid hormones gave HIGH BP. Guest guest
Hi Margaret, not me, but I have heard of higher than that- ref Dr. Skinner's book. Usually when such high doses of T4 are needed is really means that T4 to T3 conversion isn't too good so shoving more T4 at the problem in an attempt to get enough T3 into the system. How do you feel? if you are still symptomatic then you may do better on Atmout or on of the other dessicated thyroids oor replacing most of the T4 with some T3. thyroid treatment From: mhygate@...Date: Wed, 12 May 2010 14:21:29 +0000Subject: Re: Re: Hypothyroidism versus Hyperthyroidism Hi to everyone, is there anyone out there on 300mgs daily of thyroxin?
