Guest guest
Do you have details of this Dan please? and if it will soon be gone, will we be able to claim back the charges? Luv - Sheila This scam is being challenged & will soon be gone. In the meantime, if you offer to pay the VAT, but refuse to pay the £8, they still have to deliver, as it's illegal to delay the Queen's Mail. > > £8 royal mail charge i think plus VAT on what you've imported i think, so if it's £100 worth you'll prob be charged £8+ £15? > > if you're lucky your parcel might escape charges unnoticed but this doesn't seem to happen much lately > No virus found in this incoming message. Guest guest
Hi All I have just logged onto the OFT site and was directed to Consumer Direct. I phoned Consumer Direct who told me that we still have to pay the customs charge. If we initially just pay the VAT we will be billed later for the rest of the charge. Basically they said we will still have to pay the customs charge. They log all complaints - all the complaints about the customs charge are being sent to the OFT who MIGHT look into the problem and MIGHT deal with it - but I doubt that anything will change in our favour. If the Government are making money out of us by this customs charge, I doubt if the will give it up. B
Guest guest
, the discussion was about the Royal Mail not being allowed to hold onto your goods - these belong to you and the Royal Mail appear to be breaking the law. The discussion is not about VAT, Customs charges. Luv - Sheila I have just logged onto the OFT site and was directed to Consumer Direct. Guest guest
The £8 clearance or administrative charge is even more outrageous given the minimal processing involved: they just tell you to collect your parcel and to pay up before they release it, whereas other carriers make a separate demand for an admin charge after delivery, and have to chase you up if you're slow in paying. It would serve them right to make them run for their money after paying only the VAT on collection. Hans > > , the discussion was about the Royal Mail not being allowed to hold .... Guest guest
I spoke to a guy at the OFT, who claimed to be directly involved & said they are definitely taking this case through & will win it. They have to be careful what they say, but he did say that if you : - Offer to pay the VAT & ask them to Invoice you for the £8 charge. - Insist they deliver Immediately, quoting " Postal Services Act 2000, Sections 84 to 105 " , which states it's Illegal to delay the mail. - If you get an Invoice, don't pay it, they will never chase it. It is an absolute SCAM. It's completely outside the control of the recipient. We never entered into any contract, Dick Turpin would have been proud of this one!!! Guest guest
Hi ChrisNot yet. I only found out after being stung for the 2nd time. If it happens again, I will be doing it.I did write to Royal Mail & registered the 2, so as soon as the OFT win, I will claim mine back. It's only £16, but it's the principal of it!!!Ian >> By the sound of it, you've used this approach successfully, with no problems?> > Thanks> > Chris>
