Guest guest
I just did a search of all the Metcalfs on the GMC register. There were 6 with licence to practice. 3 men, 3 women. 3 were GP's and 3 were specialists, but none were specialists in endocrinology with an interest in Thyroid. Two were specialists in Internal general medicine.... Does this help? Anyone can access the register for free, online. .. > I was wondering if anyone has experience of seeing a Dr Metcalf in Brentwood; we live near Ipswich but the private endo there doesn't see kids. >
Guest guest
Hi Lizzie - I think your daughter should see an endocrinologist and one who knows about thyroid disease, rather than one who specialises in diabetes (which sadly, most of them do). I have sent you a list of doctors who might know more than others, both NHS and private and you might want to choose one from that list. I would not be inclined to wait a month, but realistically, if there are no places available, you will have to wait. You could write to somebody on the list or telephone their secretary to see if your daughter could be seen more urgently as she is feeling quite bad and should not have to wait with such results. It is vital that children are seen as quickly as possible and started treatment before any real damage can be caused, so be assertive about this. Let me know if there is somebody suitable on the list and what response you get after phoning. Luv - Sheila Hello everyone. My daughter, who has ME, has had results back from breakspear hospital showing TSH 12.84, Free T4 9.1, Free T3 4.9 and thyroid peroxidase antibodies 67.7. We have just been given an NHS appointment with a paediatrition at the end of May, but I think she would be better seeing an endo? The tests were done in Feb, so time is ticking. I was wondering if anyone has experience of seeing a Dr Metcalf in Brentwood; we live near Ipswich but the private endo there doesn't see kids. Any suggestions gratefully received, thanks. Guest guest
Ah! there's over 50 of them to search through and I'm no where near a computer tommorow. Do you know if it's a man or a woman and do you have an initial? .. > > > Oh sorry I spelt it wrong it's Metcalfe with an 'e' on the end. >

Guest guest
Hi Lizzie, He's a apecialist alright - in diabetes. Which means he can probably locate the thyroid on a diagram.... Here's his record: _______________________________________________________________ GMC Reference Number 3250633 Given Names Karl Surname Metcalfe Gender Man Status Registered with a licence to practise; this doctor is on the Specialist Register More Details Primary Medical Qualification MB BS 1987 University of London Provisional Registration Date 15 Jul 1987 Full Registration Date 01 Aug 1988 Specialist Register entry date Endocrinology and diabetes mellitus From 29 May 1997 General (internal) medicine From 11 Jul 1997 GP Register entry date This doctor is not on the GP Register ________________________________________________________________- Why were you going to see him in particular - Has he been recommended? There are endocrinologists who have thyroid as their speciality. I wish I'd seen one. .. > > > Karl Metcalfe is the man!! Guest guest
Thanks , i have only just seen your reply. I am def getting the the idea from this board that we need to avoid the diabetes docs. he wasn't recommended but was the nearest one to where we live who sees kids! > > > > > > Karl Metcalfe is the man!!
