Hello all this is my first mail. For the past couple of days I have researched

hypothyriodism like never before. I have really been educated and I feel quite

angry by some of the stuff I have read. But still sites such as this one gives

me hope. Recently I dropped out of the second year of a fine art degree course

because my brain would not function as it should. Basically since having

cancerous thyroid removed in 1992 I have progressivily lost the ability to read,

consentrate, interpret plays or films. At times when people talk to me I appear

distant and vague because I do not comprehend what is being said to me. My

memory is getting worse. I feel 'spaced out' all the time and the 'spaced out'

feeling gets worse if external stimuli puts too much pressure on the brain

resulting in a fugue state or seizure where I totally disconnect from everything

but the 'spaced out' state. Sometimes have had actual mental blackouts where i

still standing and walking and talk in tongues to people. I do not recall

blackouts. The fatigue is overpowering.Bizarre I know! It takes ages to write

these words. In the process of writing the words loose what little bit of

meaning they have...the brain seems to disconnect as if this is the most natural

thing to do!

Since 1992 I have been on 200mcg of thyrozine.....! GP insists all the memory

problems are due to depression etc and gives me pills. I do not take the anti

depressants as I believe that they will compund the problem.

PLEASE! Can anyone tell me what is going on here? Has anyone here had a similar

experience?

Sheila thank you for setting this site up...! Last week I had attended an

appointment at the McCartney centre in Liverpool and I told the attending

doctor about my head problem. Also told her that GP was investigating high blood

pressure. She told me to get in touch with her secretary for further tests by

her if the GPs investigations came to a dead end. She remarked that she did not

think it was anything to do with the thyrozine and for some unknow reason I

replied that the thyrozine were causing the problem.

I plan to write to her for follow up investigations regarding my fugue spaced

out states. As I get my foot in the door I want to educate this doctor with info

from your site. She is young and very helpfull and concerned about people.

Have wrote all this now need to lay down for a rest. thanks everyone looking

forward to some feedback here. Jeannie
