Guest guest
Chung Ying Garden is one of the largest and most popular Chinese Restaurant in the Midlands. Established since 1987, the restaurant was formed on the back of the success of it’s sister restaurant, the Chung Ying. Situated at the heart of Birmingham’s “China Town”, we are conveniently located; We are within walking distances to: · " New Street” Railway station & City Centre · Hippodrome, andra and the Old Rep theatres · BullRing & MailBox, iconic shopping of the Midlands · Radisson Blu Hotel/Beetham Tower, one of the tallest buildings in Birmingham · Arcadian Centre, where a host of bars and nightclubs are situated · Circus Casino & Oceana Nightclub We are also minutes by car from the National Indoor Arena (NIA) and International Convention Centre (ICC) Does this help - there should be a good coffee house near by. and I went to one which was very popular and would highly recommend it, but cannot remember the name of it. We parked in the Bull Ring Centre Car park and enjoyed the Saturday morning market. I gather the restaurant is near the train station, but if your train arrives early, where is a good place for people to meet up and have a cup of coffee beforehand? Does anyone know the area? Where do you suggest? Has anyone worked out where they are staying? > > This thread is for anything to do with the October TPA meeting. > > The meeting takes place at: Chung Ying Gardens > 17 Thorp Street, Birmingham, West Midlands, B5 4AT > 12.00 noon until 5.00pm. > > Further details are available on the newsletter > http://www.tpa-uk.org.uk/newsletters/newsletter_june10.pdf > > If you intend to come along to the meeting or have any questions, please post on this thread by selecting reply. Guest guest
Hi all, I will be coming and expect to arrive shortly after 11am, so I was hoping to join up with a few of you - I looked up cafes in the vicinity and there's a place called The Little Tea Shop 1 Theatre Approach Birmingham B54EJ Tel: 0121-643 3380 It seems to be on the junction of Smallbrook and Queensway on a direct walking path from New Street Station to Ying's so I shall be in there hopefully from about 11.15 with a thyroid book in evidence. If any of you wish to join me you are welcome cheers n
Guest guest
The restaurant is quite a walk from New Street station!! About 10 - 15 minutes depending on ability. There are several coffee shops on Corporation street, come out of New st. station down the ramp on to New st. and walk up Corporation st. Cafe Nero is the most convenient I think, opposite House of Fraser. There is a taxi rank outside HoF. Guest guest
If you want a really nice cup of tea or coffee I recommend .... Hudsons ............ do you remember the tv series Upstairs Downstairs Hudsons Coffee House 122-124, Colmore Row, Birmingham, B3 3BD Tel: 0121 236 9009 where is a good place for people to meet up and have a cup of coffee beforehand? Guest guest
Hudsons is quite pleasant - it is 'old fashioned' (1900-1920s maybe??) with waiter service. it's about 5 minutes out the back of new st station but you do have to walk up a fairly steep hill to it but there is a less steep way! and when i say steep i don't mean that steep but if someone is very unwell it may take a little bit longer that's all. there is or was until very very recently a place where you can have coffee in new street station with seats http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/stations/sjp/BHM/plan.html (i saw Clare Short there once having a coffee, but that's an aside!) there are also lots of neros, starbucks etc available. eg if you get into new street and go up the escalators into the pallasades there is a starbucks at the top of the stairs howe3ver it's an open air one (not a confined shop) so might be a bit noisy. you are very close to [the] Bullring too, where there are more coffee shops but you are not too far from any kind of coffee shop really wherever you go, and none of them really take you that much further from chung ying gardens, in fact the bullring is very close to it if you know which way to go. 7 minutes walk, according google maps i may still attend, but still wrestling with bad memories of birmingham (used to live in city centre) so we'll see, though i know the deadline for booking is probalby close or over. we'll see. > >> > > where is a good place for people to meet up and have a cup of coffee beforehand? >
Guest guest
Is this anywhere near to Chung Ying Gardens Restaurant please? We need to remember that people are travelling from all four corners of the UK and they might be tired, so don't want to have to walk far to the coffee/tea shop. Best if it is on the road to the Restaurant. The Post code of Chung Ying Gardens is B5 4AT and The Little Tea Shop is B5 4EJ. Hudson's Coffee Shop is B3 3BD so that sounds to be a little too far away. We have to take into the account the possibility of wheelchairs and people unable to walk very far. Guest guest
I'm staying in a holiday cottage down near Evesham, so will be driving in from there to Birmingham in the morning. Are you on my route? If you are, I could give you a lift perhaps? And you could give me some moral support about parking in a strange city!! Is that a fair exchange? in Kent (who obviously won't be in Kent on 2nd October) >> i may still attend, but still wrestling with bad memories of birmingham (used to live in city centre) so we'll see, though i know the deadline for booking is probalby close or over. we'll see. > > >

Guest guest
Sheila I have now had to cancel my reservation to stay at Westbourne Lodge, and this is to let anybody else know that there is a vacancy of a single room there for the TPA Meeting. Should I be in less pain than I am at the moment I will make it for the day,but I am not so sure about things improving by then. I am also concerned that now my GP is going to refer me to Chelsea and Westminster that I may not be in a good state to make that journey either. I am also struggling to stay on my feet as I have a chap putting in shower for me instead of having to struggle into it a bath, but that has not gone right either as on delivery the doors were smashed, so this will not get finished until Tuesday. All I can say here that it has to be an OMEN that my luck is out. Guest guest
Hi Chris I'm staying at the cottage from Wednesday 29 September, so I'll email you shortly with my mobile number, in case you decide to come to the meet at the last minute and would like a lift. Yes I do have a sat nag - she's an irritating bint at times, but absolutely essential when I'm driving on my own! Best wishes > > > > > > > > I'm staying in a holiday cottage down near Evesham, so will be driving in from there to Birmingham in the morning. Are you on my route? Guest guest
Nobody ever runs out of luck forever Kathleen, tomorrow is another day completely and who knows what might happen overnight. Keep your options open, but thanks for letting us know that a room is available at Westbourne Lodge if anybody is still looking for accommodation. It is the Conservative, Lib.Dem. Conference in Birmingham on the 2nd October, so overnight accommodation might prove difficult.
