Hi ,

Did you get your adrenals tested before going on the cortisol. If so, what were

the results?

Sadly , GP's within the NHS rarely use HC, they do not

understand it and some are quite terrified about using it and encourage their

patients to stop it. Read the information about Adrenals and HC (and the doses

you should take which are considered safe) in the FILES section. See the FOLDER

'Adrenals' and check out everything there. Your doctor will not have done the

research that these guys have done - if you are NOT making sufficient of ANY

hormone your body requires, then you HAVE to replace the hormone that you are

not making - there is nothing else that will take its place - and you will not

automatically get better by stopping it. If you are feeling better on your

latest increase and your temperatures are stabilising, then if this was med, I

would most definitely continue - simply because I do know that mainstream

doctors treat Only 's Disease and Cushing's syndrome - both at the

extremes of cortisol output. Do you have the results of any cortisol and DHEA

tests you have had done?

BTW - what tests did this doctor do to be able to tell you that

you are taking too much HC - or was he just guessing because you told him how

much you were taking?

Luv - Sheila

Hi , following recovery it is possible for the 'rested' adrenals to restart. I'm in the final stages of VERY slowly reducing HC and by next year expect to be running on my own again after 9 years. Earlier attempts to wean me off failed as the ramping down of dose was done too quickly for my own efforts to catch up resulting in reemergence of symptoms. This time, with months between reductions in dose it is going well. It is as well to use as little HC as possible to prevent unwanted side effects, but in my experience replacement doses are not problematic. > thyroid treatment > From: tanyaking32@...> Date: Thu, 13 Aug 2009 12:36:31 +0000> Subject: too much cortisol?> > hi ,i went to a dr yeaterday and he told me i was taking much too much cortisol,35mg.and this would shut down my own adrenals for good.i feel worried because ive increased it following my temps and it seamed at last to be helping.can anyone help me understand?> .x> > > > ------------------------------------> > TPA is not medically qualified. Hi .

I think this is what you were looking for the reply to, it had

appeared as quoted in the message so I am not sure.

Adrenals can recover if they are adequately supported and then you

taper down very slowly.

35 is not going to do any different harm to 20, I've heard reports

indicating that they are more likely to recover if you go high enough

to rest them thoroughly before tapering down than if you half support

them but they are still struggling

Hi ,

Well, obviously supplements are milder than HC, but I was

prescribed by Dr. P so had best advice for my condition. I found that trying

to use adrenal supplements caused my BP to rise. I was in a very poor state

to start with.
