Hi Mo,

I'm pretty sure that prednisolone is a slow release tablet which you only take

once a day. It's reckoned to be FOUR times stronger than HC.

So, if you're on 5 mcg of prednisolone you'd have to take 20mcg of HC. This

might be why you feel you're going downhill, you're now on a quarter of your

dose. However, HC is slower and shorter acting than prednisolone, so has to

be taken at spaced intervals throughout the day to mimic the body's normal

rythm. The mimic of the days rythm is thought to be much better, but the

doc's like to prescribe prednisolone as it's once a day dosing, and it just

increases cortisol overall.

NOTE: I'M PRETTY SURE, (90%) BUT NOT ABSOLUTELY SURE. CHECK IT OUT BEFORE YOU

CHANGE ANY DOSING.

Hi Mo,

I found Auden Mckenzie to be as strong as cortef which is the strongest brand.

Maybe its the dose/timing you need to look at.

Did you get the Auden Mckenzie on prescription(I don't think you can get it any

other way)?

Hi Mo - it does seem with Cortef that you get what you pay for

from some of our members. it is so much easier to go for the cheaper brands, we

have to pay enough for our medications, but this is one medication where you

need to take more of the cheaper variety to get the same effect as the brand

name Cortef - which at the end of the day, works out about the same price.

Having said that, some people do fine on the cheaper generics, but perhaps they

adrenals are not quite as pooped as those who don't do well.

Hi

I have been taking h/c recently from this manufacturer -

Auden Mckenzie (Pharma Div) Ltd

to try it out as I believe it is the brand the GPs prescribe nowadays as it is

cheaper than cortef.

I seem to be going downhill at a fast pace since starting it and wondered if

anyone on the list has experience of taking it and what their experience of it

might be.

Would be grateful for any feedback.

Have been on Prednisolone and wondered whether I should switch back or treat

this brand as a weak one and increase more than I would normally to compensate.

Many thanks,

Mo

Mo,

I have started using Betaine HCL for low stomach acid - this is supposed to help

absorbtion of HC. There is much mention of it on the adrenals forum. It seems to

be helping my digestion and I don't feel like I need quite so much HC.

Not sure about LDN I haven't looked in to that one enough though I have an idea

of how it works.

I am still curious how you are getting Auden Mackenzie HC, do you have a

prescription or have you found it on the web?

I would have love to know a way to get that stuff other than with prescription.

I had a prescription for a small amount at one point and I thought it was great.

Especially useful as the tablets are scored into four doses of 2.5mg.

Someone else told me they found this brand weaker

Hi Jane

Good point about the Betaine. I am taking it and dig. enzymes but it simply did

not occur to me that doing this might reduce my hc needs...

I am reducing T3 this week and then will follow that with

hc reduction as well.

I was given some of that particular brand, what brand do you use now Jane, there

are some generics at a good price at www.alldaychemist.com though their postage

is high, they do Oestrogel at a v good price which is where I get mine from.

Hi Mo,

I am using Cortef for the time being from IP. I have recently moved to the US

so I can't order from IP anymore, and no one else sells Cortef.

I will probably change to from inhousepharmacy when the Cortef runs out.

I don't think is as strong as Cortef but at least I can tolerate it.

When I tried Westward HC it made me feel a bit sick.

I am going to start graphing temps and fastidiously raising my T3. I have been

on HC for a year now and don't seem to have got very far either with increasing

my T3 or lowering HC. Low ferritin has been holding me back I suppose.

Yes low ferritin will do that, mine has been on the high side until recently

when it dropped possibly through Paleo and weight loss, not sure. Taking IP6 to

get it optimal now.

Are you on a good brand of T3? I am changed to all Cynomel now as it is said to

be the best though like you say ferritin being low will always trip you up in

terms of making progress.

At least you know who the enemy is Jane and you can target your effoprts in that

direction. I am sure you are already, have ypou had difficulty in bringing your

levels up?Hope you are enjoying life over the pond.

Mo

ps I used to take Westward with no ill effects, funny business how some of us

react differently but then I suppose it is back to us all being so v different

in how our bodies respond and process everything.

Just had a delivery of the Genotype Diet by Dr D'Adamo, the guy who devised

eating according to our blood type so it will be interesting to read his take on

individual differences.
