Hi

I'm Georgina from Bedfordshire, new to the forum and new to my under-active thyroid. Very interested in everything I'm reading on this forum and beginning to feel that I too have been diagnosed by blood test only, but I will post more about my situation later. I just wanted to answer Alla's post about the Caro drink. I have been diagnosed with Coeliac disease for over 30 years, so I feel qualified to comment about gluten. Barley and Rye are definitely glutenous cereals and I feel sure there will be a residue of gluten in the Caro drink. The packaging should be marked under the "Allergy Advice" column if it contains anything gluten, though it may just say "may contain gluten"

Whisky is of course made mostly from Rye, but because it is distilled, it has been proven that there is no residue of gluten in the resulting whisky, so those with gluten allergy can drink whisky if they wish.

I'm going to a nearby town today which has a very comprehensive health food shop (not H & B) and I will take a look at the Caro while I'm in there if they stock it. Chicory is not glutenous.

Hope that helps.

What a minefield thyroid problems are!

Best Wishes

Georgina

Have you tried the Caro drink which is made of barley, rye and chicory? Its a coffee substitute with NO caffeine I wonder if it has gluten as I had bloating and weird symptoms after having a few cups Thanks Alla

Dear Georgina,

Thank you very much for sharing your advice on this

Please let me know if you have any additional information on this

But I'll try to avoid in the future and I may have decaf coffee occasionally

instead

Thanks again Alla
