Hello friends,

There has been a lot of discussions on whether there

should be 'homes' for PLWAs, at all! There is a definite

downside of doing such programs as a short term response

to problems. And as far as the larger polemic of 'care

and support'is concerned, starting 'care homes' for PWAs

has a huge underbelly that we need to be aware of.

A short term answer should not become a long term barrier.

'Care homes' can become an alibi for alienation!

Dear Forum members,

This is in reference to eFORUM message #352.How to host a home

for People living with HIV/AIDS.

Yes, this is a very major issue. Most of the thought processes and funds

for care & support get diverted to the development of positive homes,

hospices and whatever names they are called. They will and has been

shown to perform the role of dumping stations for the highly influential

members of the society. The people who stay there for years are really

persons who should be attending to their routine jobs in the society and

the really needy are still pushed out.

And they also act as a face giving exercise for a few so called concerned

persons. Funds are a major reason. I am aware of many many good intentions

also, but many are not.

Anyway, be on the watch out. Arn't we diverting something from the really

needy ?
