Guest guest
Hi , A Colonoscopy gives them a better look at the whole colon, sometimes the Barium dosen't reach as far as they'd like. Also if they seen any small polyps (sp) they can snip them of when doing it. :-) Love Tess > > Just a quick update to you all, my mum has now had both baruim enema and upper endoscopy.Nothing major been notified to us as being picked up so far, she has however been asked now to have a bowel endoscopy next week. We're not sure why this is but in process of trying to find out, > > x >
Guest guest
Hi a bowel endoscopy or colonoscopy is a proceedure where they examine your large intenstine, the colon, with a camera that they insert up your bum. The day before you will have to prep the bowel which involves taking very strong laxative solution and causes prolonged diarrhoea. This is quite unpleasant as the solution is not nice to drink and there is a lot of it and the time spent on the loo is not much fun either. (Check out Connelly on You Tube searching under C Colonoscopy - very funny- helps to have a sense of humour about the whole thing!). I made it up and put it in the fridge so it was very cold and drank through a straw and then had fruit squash at the ready to take the taste away. Don't plan on doing anything the day before - just rest and read a good book or watch tv. On the day of the procedure, it's a bit uncomfortable as you won't have eaten anything for several hours so you'll be very hungry and probably feeling a little weak. They ask if you want sedation and I said yes as at times the sensation of the camera moving round the bends in the colon is a little uncomfortable. They'll put a canula in the back of your hand to give you the sedation which makes you feel very sleepy and relaxed. They also pump air in you so you will have bad wind when you are coming round on the recovery table but this is normal so don't be embarrassed. It's not too bad overall and it's soon over. Good luck with everything.
