Guest guest
Hi Sharon. When I was in a similar position I stopped my T3 for four days, and it managed to raise my TSH a bit. February '09 April TSH 0.005 0.01 (Private) T4 17.2 (NHS) 14.0 T3 5.3 Not done I am not sure why the T4 dropped, as I continued to take that as normal. Guest guest
> are the got pains from slow digestion/transit?or are they unrelated tp thyroid? > how much t3 are you taking? > > when is your blood test? Dear Dan, I can't really answer the question about slow digestion/transit as this has never been tested, I do suffer quite a bit with constipation but I can usually get this under control by taking some laxatives. The reason that I have asked to see a gastro specialist is that I do suffer terribly with gut pain under my ribs, near the middle and slightly to the left, the pain is always there but is more intense at times. I have always suspected that both the constipation and the pain are related to the thyroid problem but I can't be sure which is why I would like some tests done. I have been taking 75mcg of T3 but very little of that seems to be getting into my cells (proved by 24 hour urine test) and also my blood levels tested in July showed: Free T3 3.4 reference range 3.0 to 6.2 pmol/L Free T4 1.8* reference range 12.0 to 22.0 pmol/L TSH <0.005* reference range 0.4 to 4.0 mlU/L I will be having the blood test done next week but I'm not sure when as my Dr has said that she will arrange the district nurse to come and do it. I haven't taken any T3 since Thursday morning do you think that by Monday / Tuesday all the T3 will be gone and the resulting blood test i.e. TSH and T4 levels will be ok enough to keep my Dr happy? It's the very suppressed TSH and virtuely no T4 in my last blood test that I am worried by. Regards, Sharon
Guest guest
Hi Sharon, Don't take T3 meds for 24 hours before test for an honest result, a couple of days will leave it pretty 'natural' T3 is in and out of the body very quickly. Eg If I take T3 on the day of the test the result was double that if blood taken 24 hours later. > thyroid treatment > From: sharon.smith37@...> Date: Fri, 30 Oct 2009 15:15:10 +0000> Subject: stopping T3 for a blood test - Dr doesn't know I take it> > Hi Everyone,> > I went to see my Dr the other day as I have bad gut pains and she said she would refer me to a gastro clinic, which is what I wanted. Guest guest
Problem is it is the TSH which gets lowered, so if the doctor only does TSH, or if he does T4 also but does not know how to interpret, it will look as if she is hyper. Like my GP my TSH was 0.01 but my T4 was still in lower half but he still insisted I was hyper regardless, even though I had no hyper symptoms - except my pulse was high but that was because he was doing it, but he did not take that into consideration. Guest guest
Hi Sharon, digestive transit- just eat some sweetcorn without chewing too thoroughly and you'll see how long it takes- should be 24 to 36 hours. > thyroid treatment > From: sharon.smith37@...> Date: Sat, 31 Oct 2009 13:57:34 +0000> Subject: Re: stopping T3 for a blood test - Dr doesn't know I take it> > > Dear Dan,> > I can't really answer the question about slow digestion/transit as this has never been tested, I do suffer quite a bit with constipation but I can usually get this under control by taking some laxatives.> > > Regards,> Sharon> > > > ------------------------------------> > TPA is not medically qualified. Guest guest
Hi Sharon Yes, all the T3 will be out of your system. T3 in humans has an extremely short half life of only about 2 days. Guest guest
Thanks to everyone who replied to my message about how long T3 takes to get out of the system. I can relax now and wait to get the test and then see the results. Thanks again. Kind regards, Sharon
Guest guest
Hi Sharon, It might be fairly quick to get the T3 "out of your system" & out of the FT3, but it is not quick to alter the TSH - this can take 4 months or so - according to my endo when I had a phone consultation a week or so ago. I have reduced my T3 & armour & now have to wait at least 4 months to see if the TSH alters in response to this. I have done it "the other way" by completely ignoring the TSH & just using FT4 & FT3 and now want to see if I can do it the endo way, and how I am doing it this way, taking much lower thyroid in total. I am hoping this will get rid of a "wrong" RT3 to FT3 ratio and so that I will feel much better more often. Val Thanks to everyone who replied to my message about how long T3 takes to get out of the system.I can relax now and wait to get the test and then see the results. Thanks again.Kind regards,Sharon
