I guess they expect everyone to have a bank account and for you to be able to transfer an amount from your bank account to theirs. This can be done on the computer, or on the phone.

I have used this method quite a bit and find it very useful so perhaps that is another way of doing it. But it still takes X working days to get to the other persons account, the same as if you posted a cheque so it is not necessarily a quicker method. Paypal is more instant.

I, too, have heard that checks are going to be obsolete. I don’t like that. I use plastic for my purchases from commercial establishments, but how am I going to pay my child’s flute teacher, or pay my son’s Cub Scout dues, or even pay back my friend who loaned me money for gas the other day when I don’t have cash on-hand?
