Guest guest
You can carry on using this same subject heading for a while if the questions you have are relevant. If not, open another thread with a different subject heading, but always keep the same heading as long as you are discussing that particular subject. It looks as if you might not be converting the mainly inactive thyroxine (T4) into the active thyroid hormone triiodothyronine (T3). It is the T3 hormone your body and brain require - NOT T4. There are many and various reasons why a large minority of us are unable to convert and we need T3 hormone replacement. However, there are some associated conditions that go along with being hypothyroid which stops the thyroid hormone getting into the cells. These are low adrenal reserve, candida, mercury poisoning through amalgam fillings, low ferritin, B12, vitamin D3, magnesium folate, copper and zinc. Your doctor will check these last five because if any of them ARE low, they will need to be supplemented before your thyroid hormone replacement will start to work properly. You can read about associated conditions in our web site www.tpa-uk.org.uk under 'Hypothyroidism'. Certainly, you are looking as the T4 is not being absorbed as your TSH has risen, and so has your T4 which looks like it is floating around in your blood with nowhere to go. You can get tested through a 24 hour salivary profile by Genova Diagnostics and also you can get tested to see if you have Candida antibodies by them too. Luv - Sheila Hi! Thanks everyone for helping me...... I really do appreciate it.. I don't know if I am replying correctly as I am not used to , I hope I am lol, if not I am sure you will put me on the correct path.. here goes.. The last test 29/08/09 as follows:- TSH = 1.46 ( Range 0.02 - 6.00 ) Serum3 T4 Level = 14.7 ( Range 11.0 - 24.0 ) Test Result 20/06/09 ( This is the first blood test 6 weeks after starting thyroxine ) as follows:- TSH = 2.46 ( Range 0.02 - 6.00 ) Serum3 T4 Level = 18.1 ( Range 11.0 - 24.0 ) The receptionist couldn't find the original blood test result that dx overactive in May 2009. I have a million and one questions do I submit a new post under Sundary or something like that as I would clog up the board if I did them individualy( as I have so many ) Kind Regards You need to get the results of your thyroid gland function tests from your GP and remember to get the reference range for each of the tests that were done and post them here. More often than not, if your results appear ANYWHERE within the so called 'normal' reference range, a doctor will tell you that your thyroid function is normal, and they take no account of your symptoms or any of the signs you may still be showing. Guest guest
Hi , your TSH is heading in the right direction- down- but doc should be aiming for 1.0 which is where most healthy folk's lie. However T4 has gone down- there could be more than one reason why- if you have thyroid peroxdase antibodies a reduced attack will lower T4 a higher attack releases T4 from the destroyed cells- attacks are not constant, but fluctuate until the thyroid is destroyed. Could be a struggling thyroid has just sighed with relief at T4 supplementation and given up! How much T4 are you currently taking looks as if you could do with a dose increase and retesting as it is more than 6 weeks since last test. Have you read the info in the files on the website ( pink left hand bar) there is much info about vits and minerals than can help as well as lots of other interesting stuff. thyroid treatment From: hilary77@...Date: Tue, 19 Jan 2010 21:49:06 +0000Subject: Thyroid gland function tests results (any help please!) Guest guest
Thanks & Sheila I am getting so confused now? which doesn't take much these days brain fog & all... I thought the idea was to reduce T4? I am sorry if it is a stupid question but I have been reading post after post and also reading everything I can in the Files folder but unfortunately I read it and it stays put in my brain then I read something else and it goes, my memory at the moment is non existant. Since I started the Levothyroxine 50mcg I have put on 2 Stone in weight in 6 months I have also developed Tendonitis (all over my body), I am depressed I have lost all interest in life I just do not want to do anything and everything is an effort, so I know the dose is not right.. I went in August to see the doc complaining of " ALL OF THE ABOVE " and asked him if I should not be getting regular blood tests and the dosage adjusted according to the tests results, he said " NO need to monitor as the last test in June was within the normal range " but he would do a blood test because I persisted and told him I had suicidal feelings (No Joke) HIS ANSWER to all my problems was to put me on Sleeping Tablets, Anti-Depressants and a Cortisone Injection in my shoulder. I have copied the letter that Shelia kindly posted and will be sending it to my doctor plus the head of practice. I am considering carefully using an adrenal booster plus changing to a natural thyroid or should I wait and see if my thyroid levels out. Is it normal to put so much weight on 2STONE in such a short time (6 months)even when on Levothyroxine? I only put the weight on whilst I being on the tablets? and I am only eating the same as I did before being dx which my doctor didn't beleive said I must be eating more. Thanks again xx > _________________________________________________________________ > Tell us your greatest, weirdest and funniest Hotmail stories > http://clk.atdmt.com/UKM/go/195013117/direct/01/ >
Guest guest
Hi , I have over the 16 years I have been on levothyroxine gradually put on an extra 3 stone on top of the 1 and half stone I put on before I was diagnosed. I have only found out the Levo does this from reading here on TPA. I too don't over eat and I am careful what I choose to eat so as to try and keep my weight down but every year another 5 to 7 lbs goes on. However since I started taking Natural Desiccated Thyroid, first taking Armour (old Armour which was great) then new Armour which made me ill again and now Greater Pharma Thiroyd, the weight is slowing coming off. Same diet, not changed anything nor have I increased my exercise. Its just slowly going down. People have noticed it too. It's nearly 12 months since I first changed to Armour and because of the new formula I had a little set back but I feel so much better. I know I have a way to go (still working on the Adrenals) but I know I am on the road to better health. (Just a quick thankyou to Sheila and others here who have helped me do this) Also I had pains all the time in different part of my body, I could hardly walk downstairs when I got up in the morning and now this has disappeared. amazing. Guest guest
Hi See what response you get to your letter and whether he is prepared to refer you to an endocrinologist. Doctors should NOT be going on thyroid gland function tests ONLY, they should take account of your symptoms and signs, especially if you have 8 of any of the symptoms of hypothyroidism. These symptoms should not be looked in isolation. You are probably showing all the SIGNS too, check these out in our web site and see how many you have got - if your doctor knew anything about hypothyroidism, he should have recognised these himself without being told. I would wait to see what reaction you get and if he refers you to an endocrinologist to see whether he will increase your levothyroxine, because, even if you are one person that is able to convert it to the active T3 our body needs, 50mcgs is a very small dose and will do nothing for you.
