Thanks everybody :0)

I already get Thyroid-S on private prescription but I don't know if I could get

the dr to write a prescription for me to use when ordering Erfa. Also I don't

have a card of any sort and don't know if Erfa will accept a foreign draft,

although I can't see why they wouldn't.

Louise.

> I was in contact with the Director of Erfa. He said you can already get it now

if you have a private prescription. You just have to send the prescription to

Erfa in Canada and they will sort things out. Obviously you have to pay for it

and the shipping.

procedure is the same for presriptions from the UK too).

distributed here in the UK so that those with NHS prescriptions can get Erfa via

their GPs. However Erfa has been saying this for a while and it doesn't seem

that there is much action forthcoming.

Hi Louise

If you can get a prescription from your doctor then I'm sure Erfa would be able

to help you.

If they don't accept bankers draft, you could always try getting a pre-paid

card. A lot of people use these for shopping on the internet. They work like

gift-cards as you preload them with the amount of money you want to spend.

You don't need to be credit-checked etc. so anybody can get one. Here is some

info........

http://www.what-prepaid-card.co.uk/features/what-is-prepaid.html

If you email Henry Knafo at Erfa (the director) he usually replies within a

week.

Better - I always loved the old formulae Armour and managed well

for some time on the new formulae, but then I started getting my old symptoms

back. I am now taking the Erfa (Canadian) 'Thyroid' and it is great. The

tablets are smaller and they don't smell as strong as the original Armour, but

they are very effective and I have no problems with them whatsoever.

I should be interested to hear from anyone who

is taking Erfa Thyroid.

Is it as effective as Armour or other makes of Natural Thyroid?

Seems YES - they can be taken sublingually. You might not need

as much Erfa as you needed Armour Thyroid, they are more potent, at least, they

are to me. I have dropped to 2 Erfa from 3 Armour daily. Mind you, my T4 was

rather low at my last test so my endo. has increased my T4 to 50mcgs instead of

25.

Luv - Sheila

Got Dr to prescribe Erfa today: ons say about 2 weeks to arrive. Can they

be taken sub-lingually like the old Armour? Anybody know?

I believe that cannot Graham. In fact they have to be taken with a full glass of water.

A friend recently ordered some (which we will be sharing) and it came within ten days of ordering. There was a customs and mail charge of course.

Yes, they can be taken sublingually and Erfa is available on NHS prescription

in the UK if you can find a GP or endo to prescribe.

I had upped my Armour to 1 & 1/2 tablets a day (3 grains) but I am very

comfortable on 2 grains of Erfa. I know my sister has reduced her dosage too.

Hi Lilian

If your friend is sensitive to the precise form of sugar in the tablets, ask if

she is lacking the sucrase enzyme that deals with sucrose (it's a dimer ~ two

molecules of sugar {monomer] joined together )

A second question does anyone know which form of sugar is used in Erfa?

Not sure how she would know this, or find it out.

What reactions are those Lilian.

A friend has been on the Erfa thyroid for about a week now and

says that for her it is not like Armour. She has the

same reactions from the Erfa as she does with synthetic thyroxine and T3, which

was not the reaction she got from the old Armour.

She might have an adrenal or candida problem, or ferritin, B12,

vitamin D3, magnesium, folate, copper and zinc might be low. Any of these being

a problem would stop her thyroid hormone from getting into the cells.

Luv - Sheila

Not too sure Sheila as she just said that she didn't feel like

she did with the old Armour but more like how she felt when just on synthetic

T4/T3.

I have a member who has purchased Erfa Thyroid but has decided

to stay on T3 only and no longer requires the thyroid extract. The Erfa was

purchased through www.valuepharmaceuticals.com

and has not been opened. If anybody is running short of thyroid extract at the

moment, and would like to buy these, please write to me at sheila@... and I will pass your name

on to this member.

Subject: RE: Erfa Thyroid

Hello,

Thank you for your

enquiry regarding Erfa Thyroid. I can see why your members are getting

frustrated when trying to fill a prescription.

Boots main supplier

is a company called Idis and after speaking to patients who are prescribed Erfa

they have told me that Idis require this letter. We do not require a

letter from Pharmacies who order Erfa thyroid. I think Boots stores are told to

order from Idis first, if they can’t get a product then they order from

us as we are their second supplier. I am not sure on Boots procedures, maybe if

your members mentioned us when trying to fill a prescription, the boots

pharmacy may order from us without going to Idis first. But if they go through

their head office ordering services they may have no choice but to go to Idis.

We do supply Erfa and

Armour to many major multiplies and independent pharmacies. If your members are

having difficulties with Boots then I’m sure if they went to another

pharmacy with our details, they would not incur the problems they are having

with Boots.

I hope this

information has helped you and your members, if you need any more information

please do not hesitate to contact me.

Kind regards

Enquiries

Subject: Erfa Thyroid

Please

could you help me. I am owner/founder of Thyroid Patient Advocacy www.tpa-uk.org.uk

and I run an Internet Thyroid Support Forum. We have over 1740 members and

three qualified medical advisers.

Many

of my members are being prescribed natural desiccated porcine thyroid extract

by the NHS because they are unable to regain their normal health on

levothyroxine only. However, some members are meeting with problems when they

take their prescription for Erfa 'Thyroid' to be filled at Boots Pharmacy.

Boots are telling my members that the wholesalers who 'source' natural thyroid

extract for them, now require a letter from their doctors every 28 days

explaining why they are prescribing an unlicensed medicine whenever they take

in a new prescription. This is causing frustration for both patients and

doctors alike, who have been told previously that when a doctor first

prescribes an unlicensed medicine, they must produce such a letter, and that a

repeat letter will only be asked for once a year after that.

Boots

are also telling my members that they will not stock natural thyroid extract

and will not release any prescriptions without the accompanying letter which they

say the wholesaler require. Can you let me know please what the situation is

regarding your requirements for doctors prescribing unlicensed medicines.

Many

thanks

Sheila
