Hi Vicky,

Do you mean more Bowel movements or less?...abdominal side effects are usually

due to the latter but t3 itself dosent cause this!

have you looked at the adrenals?

Hi

I meant slowed down bowel movements - sorry I should have specified. However, I

will look at the adrenals info as my Daughter is also having Prednisolone for

adrenal insufficiency.

many thanks for your reply

Hi Vickyanne,

Did your daughter's doctor consider using hydrocortisone for your daughter to

maintain aspects of the ultradian rhythm (cortisol cycling).

Prednisolone 'flattens' the steroid output profile.

(recent paper by Lightman's group)

best wishes

Jane,

Just to clarify, your bowel movements have slowed due to the introduction of

t3?what dose are you taking?are you taking this with any other thyroid meds?do

you have any recent labs to show your free Ts on?

Has your daughter been diagnosed with an adrenal problem?

Most definitely Vicky and for the better.

When I am on T4 alone I get constipation for several days then diarrhoea, then constipation, then diarrhoea and it stresses me out.

As soon as I have some T3 my bowels are 100% normal.

This I KNOW because it started happening when I started to go downhill on T4 alone. Nobody put it down to thyroid. I had all kinds of tests. Then because I was so ill with other thyroid symptoms, I went to private doctor who gave me T3. Didn't realise the bowels were back to normal until 5 years later doctor put me on T4 only again, and it all started again.

Now I am back on some T3 (very small) it has been normal again.

That is more than a co-incidence in my eyes.

Lilian

Has anybody ever experienced bowel/abdominal side effects whilst taking T3?

Hi Lillian

Many thanks for your input which I found very interesting and informative.

Glad to hear that you had a good result with it. My Daughter has not been

diagnosed with underactive thyroid as yet, she has to go back for another blood

test for her thyroid in November. Although her TSH has been 8.62 last year

(2008) and 7.88 (this year) endo is still not convinced it is her thyroid. She

has practically all the symptoms of hypo. I must say that since she has been on

cortisol replacement her TSH has gone down to 0.9. The endo said that sometimes

when the adrenals are addressed then this can happen. I am still not convinced

though and for this reason we have sought the help of Dr Peatfield and are

awaiting results for the 24 hour thyroid test and candida. At this moment in

time she taking 12.5 of T3 under the advice of Dr P and the first 2 days she

couldn't believe how well she felt.

Once again many thanks for your reply.

Hi Vickyanne,

An ultradian rhythm is shorter than a day, in this case about two hourly

rhythms.

So-say, 'pulsatile' release of cortisol controls the transcription of other

genes....so shorter term changes in the body can be accommodated.

Prednisolone will cause continuous or a disturbed reaction(s) to what ought to

be pulsatile release of those other proteins arising from cortisol-controlled

processes.

best wishes

hi Bob,

Could you tell me more about Prednisolone. My daughter is prescribed this. I

wonder if HC would be better for her. If I have the info then I can ask her

doctor.
