Guest guest
Ok. Steph, you were right on about what to expect re: test results. Here are the two I've had so far. July 25, 2009 Total Iodine Excreted: 37.8 mg (from 50 mg loading dose) % Iodine Excreted: 76% Total Bromide Excreted in 24 hours: 17.5 mg Sept 7, 2010 Total Iodine Excreted: 39.3 mg (from 50 mg loading dose) % Iodine Excreted: 79% Total Bromide Excreted in 24 hours: 29.4 mg Thanks to you, I wasn't surprised by the results and was able to explain why that was good to two different doctors. :^) My question: I am seriously off the charts on mercury and lead. The test was a 6 hour urine test with DMSA as a provoking agent. Flechas says iodine greatly increases the excretion of mercury and lead (and other heavy metals) but not the essential metals. So, is iodine ever used to chelate mercury and lead? Is iodine alone an effective and efficient methodology to chelate mercury and lead? If I were to add DMSA as a chelating agent, what/how would that interact with the iodine? I am meeting with a doc who does chelation on Wednesday but she's not really up on iodine. She is open to it though. She has concerns about the amount I'm taking (150 mg, 5 X wk). She is concerned about it inhibiting thyroid. I am not. My energy is better and is improving ever so slowly. If she wants to do a thyroid check I'm fine with that though. I am more concerned about liver and kidneys but I am careful and rest two days a week and more if I start to feel it. Is there literature re: chelating mercury and lead with iodine? Just wondering. I'm thinking that the reason my levels are so off the charts high is that the iodine was pulling them already as were the supporting supplements (Vitamin C, selenium, magnesium all detox mercury to some degree). So, given that I was taking all of those and iodine, I have probably been pulling mercury and lead the whole time? That would make the test results artificially high as the DMSA wouldn't be the only provoking agent? So if I don't add more chelation, will that serve as an effective means to drop my levels dramatically? The doc is concerned, they are the highest she has ever seen and she does chelation as a specialty. What do you think/know? Anyone? Oh, by the way, I'm feeling better now than I can ever remember energy wise. I still crash. Fatigue is a problem. But I am having more good days and recovering more quickly. So I don't want to upset that...I like having a wee bit of a life now and again. I want more. So, adding a chelating agent that makes me crash is not something I am looking forward to. I am aware though, that I may need to bite the bullet so to speak and seriously, 'get the lead out' even if it is painful to start. I'm just wanting to be informed when I make that decision and since she's not really big into iodine as a detox for bromide (chloride, or floride), the more info I take into the conversation the better. She does listen and read what I take her. Thanks in advance.
