I'm still trying to hang onto mine. Since mine was already gone we didn't travel down that road. Like everything I am sure it is a case by case scenario. But as I said there is another Iodine doctor that has successfully done the iodine protocol on my friend with a thyroid and there was no cancer later on. Guest guest Posted August 10, 2011 Report Share Posted August 10, 2011 Hi Dawn, yes, once the antibodies too your thyroid have done the job they set out to do, i.e. destroy your thyroid tissue, they then disappear as they are specific to your thyroid tissue. The goitre will naturally disappear once your thyroid gland is no longer around. I have Hashimoto's disease and I have no thyroid whatsoever, whether there is still a trace or not I have no idea, but I will have to take thyroid hormone replacement for the rest of my life, but that is no bother,. I take natural thyroid extract and am extremely well. However, once you have one autoimmune disease, you might get another autoimmune disease i.e. antibodies that are specific to another part of your body, so if you start having other symptoms, get tested to see whether you have developed more antibodies. Luv - Sheila What I want to know is what actually happens when the thyroid finally starts to die off? Do the antibodies disappear when they have done the job? I know they fluctuate but if the thyroid is dead what is the point of them being there. How do you know when it is dead. Also does the goiter go when the thyroid dies?
