Guest guest
We started my daughter on 6.25 mgs when she was 4 yrs old. We cut the 12.5 mgs Iodoral tablets in half and crushed them and put them in applesauce. It wasn't great tasting but she got them down. We still do it that way and she is 8 yrs old and taking 12.5 mgs. My 10 yr old takes 25 mgs. The "easier on the stomach" is due to the silica coating that allows it to get past the stomach to further in the gut. It doesn't apply if you are crushing. I would add selenium to the mix as well since that is part of the thyroid hormone and iodine usage process. Make sure you are giving some form of Vit C too. Steph Lugols or iodoral for self and son Hi, everyone, I know this is a rock-bottom basic question and is probably asked here all the time, so I apologize up-front for that... I did read the section in the database about types but was somewhat confused. I went to see a doc yesterday. He felt my neck, said I had an enlarged thyroid and is running tests. Meanwhile, he said start the iodine and L-tyrosine. I was leaning toward Iodoral because I'd heard it was easier on the stomach, but then the database just says it's the pill version of Lugol's. Is there any other difference? Why is a pill form easier on the stomach? I'm going to be taking (at least for now) 12. 5 mg/day, and he recommended 3-1/4 mg/day for my son (age 4) as maintenance once I mentioned that my son is swimming in a chlorinated pool a lot (and he said he could have picked up some of my thyroid probs in utero). How would you give 3-1/4 mg to a child? A pill would be hard and isn't the Lugol's bad tasting? Just wondering what you guys do with that. Also, I most likely have depressed adrenals and if there's one version that's better for that, I'd appreciate knowing that as well. Thanks, everyone, Angie "This is not a quote at the bottom of an email."

Guest guest
Hi , In case you don't have Iodoral, you could measure a single drop of Lugol's into a large glass of water and throw half the glass out. Half a drop of Lugol's gives about 3-1/4 mg of iodine. Your little one might not object to the taste of the water; you could try it and see. Congratulations on having found an iodine practioner doctor! Guest guest
so wait, then Lugol's is better? LOL. OK, which one is better for me if I've got problems with enough gastric acid (I take Betaine HCL to help it)? -AngieOn Jul 9, 2010, at 4:49 PM, olive_oyl_2010 wrote: Hi , In case you don't have Iodoral, you could measure a single drop of Lugol's into a large glass of water and throw half the glass out. Guest guest
Thanks. I had looked at that site.... glad to know I was looking in the right place. How much selenium and vit C for ME at 12.5 mg/iodine/day? Or is there someplace I can look for a "recipe" of how much selenium/C per amount of iodine?Do you think iodoral would be better if I have low stomach acid, or doesn't it matter? -AngieOn Jul 9, 2010, at 5:06 PM, ladybugsandbees wrote: www.breastcancerchoices.org My son has always chewed the Metagenics Ultra Potent C. 1 / day We did 100 mcg Selenium 2 x / week Lugols or iodoral for self and son Hi, everyone, I know this is a rock-bottom basic question and is probably asked here all the time, so I apologize up-front for that... Guest guest
The significance I would assign to it is the need and desire for iodine. The disease called Pica is often assigned when people eat dirt, but in fact those people are usually seeking minerals that are missing from our diet because of the demineralization of our soils. In Africa, pregnant women eat a wide range of things in the search for the correct nutritional balance, including clay, but there it is not considered a disease. -- At 07:50 PM 7/9/2010, you wrote: > > >Other than PICA where you like to eat odd non-food things. Guest guest
Angie, We did the same as Steph just mentioned, but don’t mix the crushed pills in applesauce, layer it. It traps the pill in the middle and doesn’t distribute the taste in the applesauce. So take two spoons. Put some applesauce on one spoon, put the powdered pill on top, then put more applesauce on top with the other spoon. An applesauce sandwich! We did this with Nystatin, which is very bitter, 18 years ago for my 2 year old son. To mix it in the applesauce ruined the applesauce, but to layer it in the middle kept the taste of the Nystatin trapped. Donna in IL We started my daughter on 6.25 mgs when she was 4 yrs old. We cut the 12.5 mgs Iodoral tablets in half and crushed them and put them in applesauce. It wasn't great tasting but she got them down.
