TSH levels and Synthroid - New member needs advice

Hi all,

I've recently tested for high TSH levels - over the past 3 years my levels have

been going up and since last year they doubled. I got my results last week and

my TSH is 16.50

I went to my GP and he prescribed Synthroid 25mcg for a month after which I am

to step it up to 50mcg.

I'm totally new and know nothing of Thyroid disorders. And I was hoping for some

advise:

1) Is Synthroid a " Choice " and what are the long term side effects?

2) Would it be better to go for something natural like " Armour " instead of

Synthroid?

3) I live in Montreal, Canada and I do not know of any Endocrinologists that

practice Holistic Medecine - so I wonder if anybody on this forum has any info

on Montreal based doctors.

4) Lastly would anyother test (What kind?) be recommended to further investigate

this problem?
