Sure - take a few days off and see if it gets better.

Iodine detox question for and everyone

Hello, I have been taking 75 mg of Iodoral for a couple of months, last week I went up to 100mg. I havent really had any detox symptoms except for a few cherry angiomas on my body. ( I also take the companion nutrients, gluten free, yeast free diet, all organic diet, grassfed meat occasionally, organic veggie juices), In the last few days I have noticed an odd swallowing sensation as listed on the list of iodine related bromide detox symptoms on the Breastcancerchoices.org site. They list the symptom as 'odd swallowing sensation(reported in old Medical Literature as 'swollen glottis'). I did the salt loading 3 times today and have taken more Vitamin C, I was wondering if you think its a good idea to stop the Iodoral for a couple of days to see if the symptom subsides. I looked up the glottis and saw that it is very important not to disturb it as it can become infected and in some cases cause suffocation if it is disturbed. (dang internet!) In anycase, I dont want to panic, but would like to know if anyone else has had this happen and if so, did they stop Iodoral for a few days and then go back to taking it after the symptom goes away? Thanks for any help. Kathleen

I think the problem with a symptom like "odd swallowing sensation" is that the neck has so many little parts. I think many of us may have experienced and odd swallowing sensation but have no clue whether it is actually the glottis. I have had so many odd swallowing sensations this year with the thyroiditis that I have lost count and anything that could swell did but none of it was life threatening. Some days I wonder how long it will take before I have a day of all normal swallowing sensations LOL assuming I recall what that is. I think the life threatening aspect would be from an allergic reaction (bee stings peanuts and so forth) All of the weird things I have experienced have been uncomfortable though. With only having done salt loading one day it certainly seems like nothing to panic over even or take several days off. Why not maybe one day off and just drop back down to 75 mg for a while if you were not having the symptom at that dose?

Hi Kathleen,I have had my tongue swell up kind of like hives as a detox reaction it usually lasts about a day and makes chewing and swallowing difficult.I can only speculate that this is one way the body moves toxins out of the body. I also think it can be stress related.I have been taking iodine for the last two weeks and have had some sore spots in my tongue that were a nuisance but not near as bad as 1/2 of my tongue swelling up for a day.On Feb 8, 2010, at 9:54 PM, ariadne88888888 wrote:

Engtovo, thank you very much for your input. It's really a catch 22 as I have a thyroid nodule that I have had for over 24 years, and don’t want to stop taking the iodine for even a day. But I will stop for a couple of days, continue the salt loading and see if I can push out bromide. I love experimenting! Kathleen

I have had that too and it is a really weird feeling. At the time I was fiddling with my thyroid dosages so I assumed it was a hypo symptom. Maybe not!
