We discussed this at the Iodine conference (doctors) in California in 2007. Dr. Abraham, Brownstein and Flechas all agreed the the maximum dosage they would feel comfortable giving to a pregnant woman who has not detoxed previously would be 12.5 mgs / day.

Unfortunately there is no research on this nor anything for you to read.

Starting to supplement while pregnant

Hello all,I have been lurking for some time, purchased my Lugol's and was ready to go but then found myself unexpectedly pregnant. After months of morning sickness and doing my best to simply live a healthy life, I'm returning to the idea of beginning my Lugols. I would really like some support though. What issues should I consider now that I'm pregnant? Are there specific resources where people can point me (though there are loads in the files that I'm still reading)? I'm concerned about detox and really would like to know the general consensus - should I wait or proceed slowly?Much appreciation for your guidance.Anne

Thank you for the quick response Steph.

Yes, I do recall hearing that upper limit. My plan then is to begin at 6.25mg

and follow the protocol with accompanying supplements then back off if I think

I'm feeling any type of detox symptoms. If anyone has any other advice, I'd

love to hear it.

Thanks again,

Anne

There is a way to test for bromide in the serum. I just found this old article:

THE SERUM BROMIDE TEST AS A ROUTINELEVIN Am J Psychiatry.1952; 109: 56-57

http://ajp.psychiatryonline.org/cgi/pdf_extract/109/1/56

They used to use bromide to treat psychosis.

Hi Steph, Was there any discussion of starting iodine while breastfeeding and if so, in what amount? Thanks, AnnOn 5-Feb-10, at 7:50 PM, ladybugsandbees wrote:We discussed this at the Iodine conference (doctors) in California in 2007. Yes there was. They have found that if you start while nursing there is the same risk of bromide passing to the breast milk but also they have seen that the baby tends to refuse the breast because the milk taste changes so you need to be taking iodine before you start nursing. Babies that get iodine before age two have been show to be 10 pts higher in IQ or more than those that don't. Dr. Flechas tells a story of a 3 mo old baby that he taught to "High 5" in his office and this baby was an "iodine" baby. 12.5 is the same recommended amount for the mom.

Thanks Steph. Not sure my 2 daughters who are breastfeeding want to risk the bromine or the baby refusing to nurse. Do you suggest Lugol's or perhaps 1/2 Iodoral to start?AnnOn 6-Feb-10, at 2:25 PM, ladybugsandbees wrote:Yes there was. You can give them detoxified iodine if they want to pump and add it to their bottle.
