Guest guest
My use of iodine has been sporadic – a few weeks last summer. Then in January for about two weeks before we ran out of Iodoral. Now about a week with Lugol’s, maybe a little bit longer than that. I’m using Lugol’s 2% and adding a drop every two or three days. Currently taking 7 drops so somewhere between 12.5 and 20 mg. Building slowly just because I’m dealing with the panic issue whenever I take my supplements – honestly I have to psych myself into taking them and then to not panic after I do. I just took my before bed supplements and am fighting a very mild level anxiety that began while swallowing Vitamin C, of all things. So, I’m going slow with adding new or more of anything because I figure taking more would just mess with my mind a bit more and make an attack more likely. How much iodine are you taking? Did you start at that dose? How long before you noticed an improvement in your sinus problems? Some people have commented about how they felt different the first time they took it. They never say how much they took, though! So far, I haven’t really noticed any difference in anything for me except – maybe a slight improvement in energy. Maybe. Same for my husband. We both still want a nap mid afternoon but the urge isn’t quite as strong. I used my celtic sea salt and Lugol’s in the neti pot last night. I honestly felt my nasal passages were a lot clearer for several hours. A cold is working its way through our house at the moment and a slight increase in congestion has been my only symptom so far. I’m hoping the neti pot, Echinacea/goldenseal, increased C and D all work to keep it from really settling in. Thank you for the encouragement. I don’t take everybody’s advice but I do comment when I see something that might apply to one of us. The low iron, for example, as well as hypothyroid and adrenal issues all apply to us so could be possible sources of these panic attacks. I have an appointment on the 23rd with our new doc – my husband’s appointment is the 16th – and I’m giving him everybody’s labs at my husband’s appointment so he has them and is ready for us when the rest of us show up on the 23rd. As for gluten free – I wondered about corn starch. I recently purchased a cookbook called Healthy Bread in 5 minutes a Day and there are a few gluten free recipes. Most of them rely on several CUPS of corn starch in addition to alternative grains (to make four loaves of bread), which surprised me. I wondered if that could possibly be healthy, despite the book’s title. Maybe it is, but since I’ve used it only as a thickener, it struck me as odd. Guest guest
Corn because its stored in silos for months and years is almost always contaminated with mold and fungus. (as is wheat). healthier choices are amaranth, quinoa or rice. RE: Panic attacks - My use of iodine has been sporadic - a few weeks last summer. Guest guest
>How much iodine are you taking? Did you start at that dose? How long >before you noticed an improvement in your sinus problems? I'm currently taking 75mg/day. I started at 2 drops of 2% Lugol's for two days, liked the energy surge I felt, went to 4 drops, then 8 drops, which is about 20mg. My iodoral arrived, and I started on 1 tablet for a couple of days, went to 2 tablets (25mg), and so on until a month later I'm taking 75mg/day. I am currently taking both the tablets and Lugol's liquid because I like how the Lugol's gives me an energy surge and our stomach lining needs the iodine. How long before noticing sinus improvement-- I'm not sure, but it was only a couple of weeks in and I realized hey presto, my sinus headaches weren't there constantly, in next two weeks faded away now, not having them. Much less allergy-related congestion on a daily basis as well. >Some people have commented about how they felt different the first time >they took it. They never say how much they took, though! I noticed an energy surge at 2 drops of Lugol's. >So far, I haven’t really noticed any difference in anything for me except >– maybe a slight improvement in energy. Maybe. Same for my husband. We >both still want a nap mid afternoon but the urge isn’t quite as strong. Everyone is different. Try taking some more drops at noon and see how you do. Since the iodine I am much more alert, much more able to sit and work (I work as a freelancer in publishing so I work at home and am my own boss, if my energy drags it's very hard to make a living). But I must say that I also am taking LDN (low-dose naltrexone) and I know that is having an effect. LDN is helping my pain, iodine is giving me back my energy, is how I experience it. > I used my celtic sea salt and Lugol’s in the neti pot last night. I > honestly felt my nasal passages were a lot clearer for several hours. I’m hoping the > neti pot, Echinacea/goldenseal, increased C and D all work to keep it > from really settling in. Credit the iodine. I had a dry throat for 1.5 days just this week, stepped up my iodine and got my Ech/Goldenseal tincture going, wiped out the cold that was definitely trying to catch me. I'm healing better and faster. And this is under heavy financial and survival-level stresses (hubby laid off and can't find job). It was the health crash following this unrelenting stress last fall that motivated me to find some answers and here I am, so the fact that I *am* doing better is some pretty good evidence for its efficacy. As we're going to honor Steph's gatekeeping request to avoid offtopic discussions, I won't continue on the gluten question, except to say that I don't think cornstarch is an answer for health-- I quit eating it decades ago and use arrowroot for thickening and I've seen recipes for its use as a flour in baking. Tapioca and also kudzu root are good alternatives, all three are healthful not just filler. Cornstarch is good to put in your vacuum's bag to kill fleas, and is great as a body powder instead of talc. Coconut flour is expensive but works as a flour in baking. with best wishes, -- ~~~ There is no way to peace; peace is the way ~~~~ --A.J.
