Guest guest
Search in the archives about this. I *think* Steph said RT3 was a liver toxicity problem, so that would need to be worked out first before adding in iodine which would only add more work for your liver.~W On Thu, Dec 30, 2010 at 8:52 AM, <beth.abate@...> wrote: I had posted about needing to start the iodine protocol and I am convinced due to my symptoms and test results that I do need iodine. However, I am confused about how to put all this together. I have my adrenals supported now with HC and have been taking sea salt, companion nutrients and other supps for a couple of months, but I also have an RT3 problem that needs dealing with. I don't know which to tackle first, iodine or RT3. I have done tons of reading on both and understand the iodine/thyroid correlation, but I am afraid of adding too many things too fast and then not knowing what is working or not working. If I do iodine first, will that have an effect on RT3? How long on iodine before adding thyroid meds. Would I be better off clearing RT3 first and then doing iodine. My doc seems to think so, but he's playing his cards close to the vest and I'm not sure how he thinks he's going to deal with the RT3 yet. For some reason he thinks my RT3 is going to be better because of my taking HC. I've not gotten that impression from anywhere else. I know there are people out there who disagree with the iodine and only do NDT, but I really feel based on my research that iodine is a big piece to the puzzle of my health. I just want to do this the right way so I don't add to my problems. Thanks so much, Beth
Guest guest
Thank you for the response. I'm not sure why I'm having so much trouble getting info about RT3 and iodine. I've gone through the archives here several times, but have not felt like I've found the info I was looking for. With the RT3 there is so much conflicting info out there and I really feel like iodine is key here, but I'm still unsure about how it all fits together. I have been taking liver support supps as well as lots of other supplements and that with the HC has really helped me. But with the fibrocystic breasts and low metabolism I really feel there is more to be done. I've read about the euthyroid sick syndrome and wondered about that. It doesn't really seem that my thyroid is nonfuctioning. I have starved myself for years and now can only eat about 900 calories a day or I will gain weight. My test results show I definitely have bromide toxicity. I was just hoping to get someone's experience with RT3 and iodine. I do have a low amount of thyoid antibodies as well. Thanks to any and all out there willing to share their experiences. Guest guest
Beth last January I was dx'd with high RT3 levels. I have continued to take Iodine -50 - 100 mgs / day but have also added 1 scoop 2x / day of the TLC product from www.purezenhealth.com which is the liver cleanse product that Dr. Brownstein and his partners formulated. Within 3 months my RT3 had come down just under 100 points. RT3 is a liver issue. Dr. Brownstein has had his severe cases do Dr. Cabots liver diet - www.liverdoctor.com Re: still a little confused Thank you for the response. Guest guest
Thats very encouraging to hear. I must keep in mind the role the liver plays in all this. Guest guest
The main conversion sites for T4 to T3 are in the liver and kidney. Guest guest
the liver needs iodine to heal and I don't believe it stresses the liver. Guest guest
Iodine by itself does not stress the liver. It is the detoxing that is envoked that does. Just like the comment about iodine and low adrenals. It is not the iodine that hurts them but the detoxing.
