Guest guest
I've just had my third attempt at getting a doctor to do blood tests. The first one did the TPO which came back at 58. The second one ordered TSH 0.785 mU/L 0.30-4.00, and FT4 15.4 pmol/L 9.0-22.0 I've just tried to get the other suggested tests done, but she won't do anymore and says I don't have thyroid issues and my TPO is too low to be Hashimoto's. The only adrenal test I'd been able to get done was the plasma one which she didn't give me the results for but said was normal. I didn't get anywhere with asking for a saliva cortisol test and the last doctor hadn't even heard of saliva testing. These are some of my symptoms: dramatic hair loss of almost all body hair, fatigue, slow but steady weight gain of 16 kgs from the time of the hair loss with very little diet change except totally cutting out gluten (my diet was already very good and organic), chemical sensitivities - part of the reason for my very healthy diet - I just can't tolerate anything with chemicals, low body temp 35 - 36.1 (sorry can't remember the F temps), low blood pressure, gluten intolerance, strange rashes, dry skin, numbness in extremities and burning on soles of feet, extreme sensitivity to cold, blurred vision, and I could go on but can't think of them all at the moment - everything except low libido funnily enough and my periods are very regular and normal but some mild fluid retention and breast soreness. I know lots of you have also experienced this but it is SO frustrating. I tried talking about what the other tests might show (I had the list I'd got from this email list from the emails of others) but she just said I didn't need them. I asked but what about all my symptoms? She said it could be other things like menopause. I tried saying but isn't it worth at least checking with the other thyroid tests, and also asked about checking for Graves, just as a precaution, because I still sometimes have short episodes of heart palpitations and, just before my dramatic hair loss (lost nearly all my head hair within 3 weeks), I'd had hyper symptoms, but it was like coming up against a brick wall and I knew I was doomed. She was very nice about it all, in her manner. Even said we all want answers when things like hair loss happen. And I said, yes, I would like an answer if there's one there. She asked if I'd been under stress at the time of the hair loss, which I had, and said that that was probably what did it - not thyroid issues or Hashimoto's. Anyway, I do have another appointment with a different, hopefully more holistic doctor, next week, but it's a two and a half drive away and I'd hoped to find someone closer to home.
