Judy, maybe your hair loss is due to new hair growth and you will see

thicker hair in a couple of months? I think that when new hair grows it

pushed the old hair out.

We were just watching this on a science DVD this morning.

Hi Judy,

I too had months of my hair falling out and it alarmed me until I read about the

bromide detox. (I have been taking 50mg. Iodoral for about a year now)I am

pretty sure that is what happened and it has stopped now and I believe my hair

is growing back. Not sure why excretion of bromide affects hair other than

smothering or temporarily inhibiting the growth so hair 'dies' at the root. I

check for new growth by brushing my hair opposite direction and holding my hair

close to my head can see the new baby hair popping through the old, hope this

makes sense.

Hope someone else can comment on this. I do believe however that I was

negligent on following Steph's Iodine protocol faithfully. In other words, I was

not drinking enough water and taking enough Vit.C, and sea salt daily to wash

the Bromide out of my system through kidneys instead of scalp. I also had an

odd scaling of skin on my face above eyebrows that is gone now too. Again I am

interested if anyone else would comment on this idea. (I am self-treating and

have had not any tests run)

I have been following this list for over a year now and with all I have learned

and continue to learn, Iodine is so essential, I dare not go off it and am

grateful for and the intrepid and fearless group here.

Warmly,

Hannah

Shomon writes:

First, if you are hypothyroid and taking levothyroxine (i.e., Synthroid) as your thyroid hormone replacement, and still losing hair, you may need to take action. Prolonged or excessive hair loss IS a side effect of Synthroid for some people. Note: Many doctors do NOT know this, even though it is a stated side effect in the Synthroid patient literature, so don't be surprised if your doctor is not aware of this.

Hair loss can also result from being UNDERtreated.

As someone who has had a few periods of extensive hair loss since I became hypothyroid (at one point, my hair was so thin that if you held it together and made a ponytail, it was the width of a PENCIL!!), I can vouch for the fact that taking EPO was the only thing that calmed it down. It not only slowed, then stopped my hair loss over about two months, but new hair grew back, and my hair was no longer straw-like, dry and easily knotted. More info on the following website:

Hope this helps.

Apparently, my recent extreme hair loss is most likely due to rapid bromide detox. I've seen this listed as a common side effect as well has 'bromide acne', which I also went through. Until I know whether or not my hair will grow back (I'm 62) I have stopped taking Iodoral.I'm wondering if anyone else here has gone through this and maybe has some advice or treatment I can try to regrow my hair. Thanks,Judy

How much iodoral were you taking, Judy?

I had terrible hair loss before I started iodine. But shortly after I started

taking 12.5-25 mg of iodine, I noticed that the hair loss has slowed, and my

hair is looking healthier. I had to put it up for the past 9 months because it

was so scraggly looking, and I've been able to leave it down for the past week

or so.

Have you ever used hair color I am curious because the dark colors especially are heavy in bromide I switched over to a more natural non bromide color and I am very surprised how much better my hair feels. Anyway I ask because it would be interesting to know if people actually have a bromide buildup in their scalp tissues from hair color that may not have a very good way to exit the body and could affect the hair follicles as it leaves. My hair started thickening from higher doses of iodine and then when I had to reduce my dose for a while because of bad detox I lost a lot, now that I have dealt with the detox and am raising again with adequate salt it is getting thicker again. My nails also improved a lot at the beginning with 50 mg - 100 mg then got bad when I had to go down to 25 mg and now they are getting thicker and stronger again at 50 mg

Thanks, Hannah. I do believe that your scenario fits me, too. I didn't do the salt thing because I figured that I took in enough salt in my food. Maybe not. Perhaps I didn't drink enough water.I didn't have the skin scaling, but I did have the bromide acne...big, sore bumps that were very attractive at any age, especially a 62-year old.I was taking 50 mg. daily for about a month before I aborted the mission. My husband was on 50 mg. for two months, then I took him down to half that...his hair has also thinned. He doesn't care. He'd rather be bald and bromide-free. As a woman, I have to think about it...Judy> > >> > > Apparently, my recent extreme hair loss is most likely due to rapid > > > bromide detox. I do color my hair. I never even considered that haircoloring would have

bromides, but I do use a light color...just to cover the gray and I also never

use a permanent color, if that makes a difference. I guess I need to start

reading the box, hmm?

Thanks,

Judy
