Guest guest
The magnesium is a good idea. I was taking pretty much (could have been causing loose bowels) , but I wasn’t taking glycinate. I should try that. As far as the adrenals, everything seemed to come back fine on my saliva test except for progesterone being quite low (which could also explain the infertility problems). My ND was concerned though about Cortisol “possibly” stealing from the progesterone to make up for it. The cortisol came back fine, but she was a little suspicious she told me. Steph, have you heard of that? She does want me to go on something for the cortisol to be certain it is fine. It is the Isocort. I did read on a previous post awhile back that someone had good results with it. Guest guest
Perhaps talk to you doctor or do some looking into Pregnenolone which can help support the adrenals as well as progesterone, etc... Pregnenolone Levels can be tested via serum. If interested in testing, magnesium is best tested intracellular - there is a company called Intracellular Diagnostics that may be of interest to you. http://www.exatest.com/ > > > > > > Hi all, > > I saw this on a thread but didn't follow because I haven't taken iodine for > awhile and didn't feel the effects but now remember why I stopped. Guest guest
My daughter is on Isocort and it works fine. The main difference between it and adrenal glandulars is that the glandulars have some natural adrenaline in them that if you are adrenal fatigue you may not want. It can hype you up just a tad, even though you are trying to settle down and heal the adrenals. Isocort is not supposed to do that. I am trying to remember if the Adrenals gal explained that if the body is low in cortisol in beginning adrenal fatigue, that it can rob the progesterone to turn into cortisol so you would end up low progesterone... I think that was it. If you supplemented the cortisol for a time, your body would not use up all the progesterone and would build the ability to build up its own cortisol levels. My daughter and I are finding a lot of help with a few extra vitamins: spray Vit. b12, needed Vit. D, extra iron, Pantothenic acid, and a b- 50 or 100 complex. These feed the adrenals while you use the iodine and supplements to feed the thyroid. It has really helped my brain fog, and being unable to get up and move in the morning. But I am waiting some tests to have confirmation. On 3/15/2011 1:05 PM, Lori@... wrote: The magnesium is a good idea. Guest guest
I just read an article I found intriguing that lays out the " OAT " (ovary/adrenal/thyroid) axis imbalance. The gist of it is that many of us have adrenal fatigue, but we treat the thyroid and ovaries. When we don't treat the adrenal first, the thryoid meds (and iodine and some companion neutrients)jazz us up while our bodies are ratcheting down due to the adrenal fatigue. I definitely have issues taking the iodine (and I LOVE it) as I start to see all kinds of exacerbated hypo symptoms and get really bad kidney/adrenal discomfort and cramping. I can only attribute it to when I take iodine as when I stop, I feel better. What the article wasn't really clear on, and maybe because there is no clear solution, is how to really treat the adrenals. Here's the article: http://www.drlam.com/articles/ovarian_adrenal_thyroid.asp?page=1 > > > > > > > > > > > > Hi all, > > > > I saw this on a thread but didn't follow because I haven't taken iodine for > > awhile and didn't feel the effects but now remember why I stopped. Guest guest
I have been learning a lot about adrenals on the NTH Adrenal group at . Also, Dr. 's book, Adrenal Fatigue. But I do not listen to their advice on iodine, as I think here has a much better perspective on it. It is true that adrenal fatigue needs addressed as well as the thyroid. I like the analogy that you boost adrenals a step, then thyroid, then adrenals.... I feel much better already just taking the adrenal support vitamins. Guest guest
what are the adrenal support vitamins? Guest guest
From Dr. 's book on Adrenal Fatigue: The 21st Century Stress Syndrome- Vit C Vit E- 800 IU Pantothenic Acid- B- , 1500 mg Niacin - b-, 25-50 mg Vit. B6- 50 -100 mg B complex- I usually take 100 mg a B complex and then just add extra Pantothenic 1500 mg to get them all rather than buy a bunch of B's B12- I use a spray absorbed by mouth mucosa magnesium- 400 mg Good multi-vitamins with all trace minerals in it, or just trace minerals Check to see if Vit. D is adequate. Plus, it is very important to know that your iron is adequate- not just ferritin, but a complete iron panel. I started Iodine and supplements first, then I added all of these while waiting on my labs to come back. The combination is really making some difference; no brain fog, able to get up in mornings a bit easier, my nails are starting to grow out differently, my hair is starting to grow back, etc. When my labs come back, I'll have a more objective base from which to see what else my body may need.
