Guest guest
Hi Peary, I started taking iodine in June 2008. Within six weeks I had got rid of the breast tenderness that I had had for over 20 years. I had just about tried everything short of a masectomy. I got rid of my heart flutters which were going at about 1-2 per day. After a long period of not much happening in october 2010 my TPO antithyroid antibodies went back down below alert level and the other ones (can't remember the right name) are going down too. I can no longer feel the 5 by 1 cm cyst that I had in my right breast. It is still there but it has definately shrunk. It has been growing for eight years. My mother died of breast cancer in both breasts. I think iodine has saved my life. My health closely resembled my mothers pre-cancer health history. Iodine has sorted out my Hashimoto's disease and my fibrocystic breast disease. My advice if you have reservations is to start low and work up. Don't ever forget to take your selenium. Guest guest
Hi. From my own personal experience, I put myself on Iodoral when my daughter saw a dietician who put HER on it. Was on a low amount for a long time and going thru detox with Celtic Water. I upped my amount to 50mg for awhile and my energy level is unreal! Warmer. Skin isn't so dry. Hair not falling out in bunches. I went on 100 mg for some time and my kidneys felt funny so I am back on the 50mg. Still feeling really good. I tend to be hypo and my thyroglbulin is a little high but I don't know what that means exactly. Every doctor I see wants to do biopsy and surgery or just surgery. I canceled surgery for Sept/10 and just recently a second biopsy. I cannot find a single doctor that will treat me in any way other than surgery and synthetic meds. I am also organic since 2005. Gluten free since 06/10. Trying to take the best care of me and my family. I am on NO meds for a thing other than the Iodoral and supplements and a few garlic/ginger/butter sandwiches to help get rid of skin cancers. I need to get a basal thermometer and also check my pH. Just to see what is what there. I wish I had found the information back in 2005 when my multi-nodular goiter was first found and that unsympathetic endo did nothing for me. My daughter is on Iodoral and she is Hashis/hypo/pcos/gluten sens. My husband has just been diagnosed as hypo, too. We are mid 50's and daughter is 25 yo. Take care. ~~Barb > > > Hi all, > > This is my first post so be gentle! > > I have been suffering from Hashimotos' for a decade.I wont bore you all > with the details but I'm no better despite my best efforts to regain my > health. > > I saw my third private doctor a couple of weeks ago and he has suggested > Lugols iodine but is arranging blood tests first etc so I have time to > consider this option. > > Now I am aware of the conflicting data regarding Iodine supplementation > but what I really want to know is.........Who has truly benefited on > this forum from taking it and what improvements did you feel? > > Did it raise your body temp for instance ? Guest guest
I too am interested in hearing from those who have Hashi's and take iodine. I've read conflicting opinions...some swear it's the answer and some say no. I've experienced a lowering of my antibodies since giving up wheat 9 months ago and would like to see them even lower than the 300 they fell to. Just a bit on the fence about iodine but with the radiation factor looks like I'll be giving it a go regardless! Thanks, Janet Hi Peary,I started taking iodine in June 2008. Guest guest
Hi Peary,I have/had hashimoto's, high Reverse T3 and adrenal fatigue. I'm much better on iodine (currently on 130mg), T3 only and hydrocortisone. It's hard to tell how much is the iodine and how much is the T3. I noticed my biggest improvements after starting T3 - it took me a long time to get the right test and find out that my Reverse T3 was very high - but when I stopped iodine I got worse again so it's obviously helping. My temperatures have gone from 33s to 35s up to high 36s and sometimes a 37. I have got rid of all symptoms apart from I get breathless with any sort of physical exertion (I don't think I " m unfit because I was quite fit before all this, four years ago, so don't think my fitness could have got so bad so quickly and it's not that sort of breathlessness), I have not lost the 20kgs I put on over three years and I still sometimes have fatigue but nothing like I used to. Guest guest
Selenium is a key nutrient in the oxidation process. If combined with the right items like iodine, vit c, etc it does help to reduce Ab's. Buist, ND Re: Iodine..who has truly benefited? Guest guest
On the natural thyroid group they talk lots about wheat sensitivity aggravating Hashi's antibodies. I never had any digestive issues around wheat. But, after trying gluten free for 6 months my antibodies were the lowest they have ever been. I just did bloodwork after 9 months gluten free. I'll see what the antibodies look like now. Many say giving up gluten has had a very positive effect on their well being especially those with digestive issues. Guest guest
Back to the original question. Iodine has changed my life. I have a ways to go but I am half way functional from taking iodine. I wouldn't be taking iodine if it hadn't been for this group saying how more is better than less. It doesn't make sense but it was that way for me. I have lyme and am constantly writing on lyme forums how much iodine has helped me but they don't seem to care. I found a story about a man who had lyme lived to be in his nineties by taking iodine. My cat asks for it everyday. Her personality has improved and she has gained much needed weight. Her fur looks beautiful. She was starting to ask for food every second of the day. I give her a couple of squirts in her food, along with natural selenium. Joan

Guest guest
Peary, To answer your question about selenium I take 200µg like it says in the Iodine Protocol. It is important to take selenium because it is needed for thyroid function as well iodine. I find that if I take one of them without the other I feel pretty ill quite quickly (3-4 days). It is also important to read the documents on www.optimox.com about the iodine protocol. On the Iodine Research page there is an article called "Facts about Iodine and Auto-Immune Thyroiditis" written by Dr Abraham. It explains the role of selenium in the production of thyroxine and how it's absence can start an auto-immune attack. Coincidentally, the sources of iodine in nature are very similar to the sources of selenium. So chances are that if you lack iodine you also lack selenium. Hope this answers some of your questions, MacGilchrist From: Pamela Valley <2007pams@...>iodine Sent: Wed, 16 March, 2011 5:07:31Subject: Re: Re: Iodine..who has truly benefited? Me too. I read it somewhere on line. It did fascinate me. I read a lot of medical research trying to fight off rheumatoid arthritis and had 9 diseases a few years back. Anyway shared it with friends who had mascectomies this year so been awhile. Guest guest
But are you supposed to take the selenium with the iodine, so if you need to take the iodine with the selenium, but you need to take the iodine in the am to help prevent insomnia (insomnia and low WBC are two of my major health issues), what do you do? Guest guest
Thank you Carol and Everyone who has reponded on this topic. It seems there are many of you that have benefited from iodine supplementation but perhaps there are other factors that are aiding the improvements too..ie: gluten avoidance, selenium uptake etc... Would it be prudent to start with a couple of drops of Crow's Lugols iodine 2% available from Amazon? I really can't spend hours reading protocols and additional information relating to this.I just don't have the time or energy.I hope that doesn't annoy others reading but I'm just so tired of it all and have awful brainfog. Is there anything I should look out for in regards to unpleasant side effects? Thanks Peary(>> When I started taking iodine, within 2 weeks I was hyper instead of hypo. So> I quit my Armour. Guest guest
I take both of them with the other companion nutrients with my breakfast. It works fine that way.
