Guest guest
But there are those of us on desiccated thyroid with suppressed TSH that gained weight with Iodine. So that's not the definitive answer either. It's frustrating as a female but I think it is much more complex: Diet Toxicity Hormones Metabolic Rate Exercise Level Level of Fat intake Protein Intake Carbohydrate Intake Refined foods / Artificial sweeteners (usage) Steph TSh Weight Gain? Just throwing this out there as there has been a lot of questions on weight gain. Others can draw conclusions :)"Fox et al. noted that with increased TSH levels, women gained more weight than men did, although both sexes gained. The researchers conjectured that women may accumulate more fat because fat oxidation is faster in men. At follow-up 3.5 years later, increases of the TSH level within the reference range "was strongly and linearly associated with weight gain."The concluding statements of Fox et al. are worth repeating: "In conclusion, thyroid function (as assessed by serum TSH concentrations) within the reference range is associated with body weight in both sexes. Our findings raise the possibility that modest increases in serum TSH concentrations within the reference (physiologic) range may be associated with weight gain.""http://www.thyroidscience.com/editorials/lowe/weight.gain.tsh.htmbtw, http://www.thyroidscience.com/ is carrying on the good fight against thyroid hormone misconceptions and false science againt natural thyroid hormones.Bruce
Guest guest
It is absolutely and definitely more complex. It is one thing to consider. I did not say "here's the answer" A respected scientific thyroid journal mentions it for a reason, and studies have been done as well. I thought it may help anyone who has tried everything. Perhaps I shouldn't have Bruce TSh Weight Gain? Just throwing this out there as there has been a lot of questions on weight gain. Guest guest
I understand. I think the TSH thing makes me over sensitive. It has been the "gold standard" marker that I was measured against for 6 years and it was my worst enemy. Steph TSh Weight Gain? Guest guest
Understood, the traditional medicine's using tsh only is everyones enemy. Person A: Has been on a high fat/low carb/low glycemic diet for several years. Takes supplements and diets natural or even paleo. Starts iodine and gains weight. Possible reason: TSH goes up when starting iodine increasing weight - likely temporary Person B: Makes no dietary changes. Maybe low carb/little attention to glycemic index. Eats low fat/high carb Some supplements. takes iodine amd gains weight; Possible reason - Diet/carbs/high glycemic index. Doesn't know low fat/high carbs = weight gain, acellerated by iodine making system more efficient. Recommendations: talk to person A Bruce ----- Original Message ----- From: ladybugsandbees I understand. I think the TSH thing makes me over sensitive. Guest guest
That was good Bruce. Analyze mine! Perhaps if you do enough you can find the answer. IF anyone can, you can! Person C (For me!) Has been on a high fat/high carb/high glycemic diet?(dont actually know what a low glycemic diet is but doubt i did it!) for several years, entire life! > Takes supplements (for 5 years, which lowers bp, nothing much else) > Starts iodine and loses weight.(lots of it 40 pounds) > Possible reason: Intense Exercise? Lots of sunshine! Little stress? But then! Has been on a high fat/high carb/low glycemic diet?(still dont know) for several years, entire life! No change in diet. > Takes supplements (increased C, Mag, Salt to deal with detox) > Continues iodine and gains weight.(10 pounds) > Possible reason: No exercise? increased stress? No sunshine. Ok thats me. What ya think? Or perhaps its just impossible to know why some gain and some dont? And, I am back to the first, losing again but still no exercise, very (very) slight weight loss since stress ended. I only changed the amount of exercise and the amount of stress.Little to no stress now. Still no sunshine. I am about to embark on another intense exercise, so will be interesting. Perhaps it IS the exercise...or intense sweating. Forgot to mention that was part of my intense exercise. Another thing i found strange. For the time i was losing weight i didnt crave food like i did with the stress, (which makes me think the overeating or wanting certain foods, is really pica and trying to get the nutrition in a body that cant use it, stress used nutrients, have to eat more! but i digress) Cheryl > > Understood, the traditional medicine's using tsh only is everyones enemy. > > Person A: > Has been on a high fat/low carb/low glycemic diet for several years. > Takes supplements and diets natural or even paleo. > Starts iodine and gains weight. > Possible reason: TSH goes up when starting iodine increasing weight - likely > temporary > > Person B: > Makes no dietary changes. > Maybe low carb/little attention to glycemic index. > Eats low fat/high carb > Some supplements. > takes iodine amd gains weight; > > Possible reason - Diet/carbs/high glycemic index. > Doesn't know low fat/high carbs = weight gain, acellerated by iodine making > system more efficient. > Recommendations: talk to person A > > Bruce

Lost me here. foods glycemic index; quick example: http://www.the-gi-diet.org/lowgifoods/ > Continues iodine and gains weight.(10 pounds) > Possible reason: No exercise? increased stress? No sunshine. Diet change - seasonal diet change - more high glycemic foods - more high fructose corn syrop? Ketchup for example is loaded with sugar. Perhaps, if you have time, read the below rather long article. I have read it quite a few times and plan to many more times til I realllly get it. He has a way of writing that makes it easy to miss the important parts. But what he is saying about insulin, sugar, and fat is vital. http://www.biblelife.org/rosedale.htm Then I bet you can answer your own question Insulin and hormones, including thyroid and sex hormones are related and influence one another. Type 2 diabetes - insulin resistant. Type 2 hypothyroid - thyroid hormone resistant Both can be low level as well and we don't know it. All of us can look at insulin levels and get them as low as possible as all are resistant to some degree. Bruce ----- Original Message ----- From: cheryl_b_1 That was good Bruce. Analyze mine! Guest guest
Cheryl, I'm also on a " blood sugar think tank forum " . This is a website called Blood Sugar 101 that is very helpful and easy to read and understand. It's all about how testing your blood sugar helps you understand what's up with weight gain AND damage to your liver and pancreas from glucose dysregulation. http://www.phlaunt.com/diabetes/ PS you do not need to be diabetic to find this info important Karin > > > > Understood, the traditional medicine's using tsh only is everyones enemy. > > > > Person A: > > Has been on a high fat/low carb/low glycemic diet for several years. > > Takes supplements and diets natural or even paleo. > > Starts iodine and gains weight. > > Possible reason: TSH goes up when starting iodine increasing weight - > > likely > > temporary > > > > Person B: > > Makes no dietary changes. > > Maybe low carb/little attention to glycemic index. > > Eats low fat/high carb > > Some supplements. > > takes iodine amd gains weight; > > > > Possible reason - Diet/carbs/high glycemic index. > > Doesn't know low fat/high carbs = weight gain, acellerated by iodine > > making > > system more efficient. > > Recommendations: talk to person A > > > > Bruce >
