Guest guest
I was reading the package insert (finally) and it states that often one will need a reduced amount of thyroid medication when on iodine. Have you found this to be true? If so, at what dose range of iodine would I expect to see this (I only take 12.5 at this point), and how much do you see people needing to “reduce” by? Guest guest
Dr Brownstein states that approx 1/3 of his patients can eliminate thyroid medication, 1/3 lower dosage and 1/3 have no effect by iodine. So you just never know how you will react. Don't reduce your thyroid meds. Just take it one day at a time. 12.5 mgs is a small dose and probably will have no effect on thyroid levels. Buist, ND Iodine, less thyroid meds? I was reading the package insert (finally) and it states that often one will need a reduced amount of thyroid medication when on iodine. Guest guest
Hi ,Some people are able to do this, but I wouldn’t say “often”. I have upped my dose since taking iodine, partly because I realized I was not taking enough to begin with. There are no set “if, thens” with it. You probably will need more iodine before you would be able to reduce, because the reducing is based on your thyroid being able to heal enough to start functioning better. Some people had too much damage and never have that happen, so can’t reduce the dose. IF you can reduce, how much you reduce by is just your individual body need. Every one is different, there is no cut and dried formula. Donna in IL From: iodine [mailto:iodine ] On Behalf Of ShreveSent: Tuesday, March 15, 2011 1:47 AMiodine Subject: Iodine, less thyroid meds? Guest guest
I had to reduce my thyroid meds by about 40% while taking 12.5 mg per day Iodoral. It's not always easy to tell by symptoms alone if you're overdosed or underdosed. If you don't feel well you may want to check your thyroid bloodwork. Guest guest
Good to know ! Thanks. I would love to get my daughter off of the synthroid/cytomel meds. All the docs we see are no help. I am online all day/night trying to find info for her and me (even husband is hypo!). She has been on one half iodoral forever. She has many things going on tho, Hashi/hypo/pcos and gluten intol. This site and your blog has helped so much. Thank you again. ~Barb > > Dr Brownstein states that approx 1/3 of his patients can eliminate thyroid medication, 1/3 lower dosage and 1/3 have no effect by iodine.
